Need some help please on a few things in family room/kitchen
Comments (19)I think you want a trendy great room! Open spaces are in fashion. Most newer homes have them. I would remove that wall, especially if that is what you want. We have a great room in our current home. No wall divides the kitchen and living/family room. We love it! It's perfect for entertaining. When you entertain, everyone wants to be in the kitchen, but with a great room, they can be anywhere in the space, and still feel included. We have one of those open walls too in our new remodel (not done yet), and I wish the wall wasn't there, but it is not near the kitchen, and only open to the entry, so it will stay even though that opening is a dust collector, and too narrow to be of any use at all. To separate our current living space from the kitchen, we have a double reclining sofa/loveseat, so 4 recliners. Two desk consoles act as sofa tables, and hold our computers. If there is a fire in the fireplace, it can be enjoyed from anywhere as can the TV. I will miss the great room in our new home, but we still are living here till the reno is done. Comments (21)I think the wow factor is already at work in your kitchen, what was your other question, lol ??? an open weave alessi metal basket for your fruit would be a useful addition that you could move around ; a metal round container for spatulas and wooden spoons, oil and vinegar bottles on your shelf/ledge, a few wine bottles........... things that will be used or consumed plus the fun artifacts you already have. glad to see your pictures finally showed up !! your kitchen is a dream, I would not add much since you said it's a well used kitchen and you don't want to clutter. I would sometimes add a clear glass vase with a bunch of white tulips at the end of the wine fridge counter, if you're feeling festive....See MoreNew! Can you help me arrange furniture in my family room please?
Comments (8)How much seating do you need on a regular basis? I would be inclined to get a leather couch, that would sit to the left of the fireplace, facing the dining area. Sofa table behind the couch, with lamps. Nesting tables at the fireplace end, to be used as needed. Opposite, on the right side of the fireplace, a pair of chairs that recline. No ottomans, as I see that being an obstacle for your son. The recliners let you put your feet up as desired, but are not in the way the rest of the time. A nice table and lamp between the two chairs. No coffeetable needed. The tv moves to the stairway wall, where the couch is now. Wall mounted or on an entertainment stand. If there is room for the bookcase beside it, fine, but I have a feeling that wonâÂÂt work, in part because I believe I see the thermostat there. In that case, you could put another chair against the wall for extra seating. with a wall-mounted swing arm lamp beside it, and a narrow table next to it. I wouldnâÂÂt necessarily drywall in the space over the fireplace - it could be a cool display niche, especially if you could add some lighting into the top of it....See MorePlease Help Me Decide Best Family Room Layout & Sectional
Comments (6)Here are the mock-ups that I created. Links are to the different sectionals, but not the specific configuration. The recliner on the right is our existing one. The coffee and end tables are just suggestions, but haven't been decided on. The rectangle on the wall across from the fireplace is the secretary desk that I already have. ETA - the layouts in A and B are similar, except the end on the short side is armless in B and the long side in B is longer by almost a foot. A. Room & Board York Sectional R&B York Sectional B.
