2 best daylilies you would plant in mass.
Comments (17)With my new garden barely blooming, I can't offer much advice about daylilies. I do want to share the laugh that I'm having at myself over my misinterpretation of this thread. I saw the title and thought, 'Ooh, people are going to be sharing the best daylilies to plant in Massachusetts!' I wonder if any other New Englanders did the same thing. Kerry p.s. Kay: Cinco de Mayo is a knock out. Thanks for sharing that picture....See MoreBest Pure Yellow Daylily
Comments (7)Well, I don't grow HYPERION, and I'm not sure whether I've ever seen it - so cannot compare any yellow against it. But my vote for "best" yellow, or rather, a top favorite yellow among the ones I grow: HIS SISTER PAM (Yost 2009). Registered as a yellow self, 36", 6.5" flower, and 35 buds and 5 branches. PAM was slow to get started & didn't bloom in her first year here (2010). Last year, there were lovely, ruffled blooms with wonderful substance, on scapes that were tall and with adequate bud count. I don't recall the number of scapes...maybe three (?). Maybe two. This year, FFO will be tomorrow. The plant has five scapes, and the height is taller than registered: tallest one is 47", and a couple of others are ~42 - 43". I count ~24 buds. That's not too shabby! Branching is developing nicely, and, as a clump, this one is going to put on a real show. Another favorite, with an entirely different look, is GREEN INFERNO (Gossard 2006). Diploid spider, with a truly greenish hue to it. It's a really intriguing color....See MoreBest daylilies in these colors
Comments (2)For White/near white how about: GREAT WHITE, GENTLE SHEPARD, BOB WHITE (which is a dormant tet that might do great in your zone), JULIA'S CHOICE, HEIDI EDELWEISS, SPACECOAST SNOW ANGEL, WINTER MEMORIES, and WINTER SPRINGS. I have a double fan of BOB WHITE I can share with you if you decide on that one. You can also do a search for several older posts that we did though the winter I think. Seems like we covered each of the color groups in a "What's your favorite red, etc" Shelly...See MoreBest Pink Daylilies of 2021
Comments (43)Mantis, some of the pinks I showed are new for me this year and I can't comment much on performance.....but I will try to take the time to give my evaluations from now on since I agree with you that it's helpful. I was rushing to get the photos up. As for Pinewood Strawberry Moon, I wanted to get it and found it after much searching. Strangely, it went completely dormant and underground in September so I hope I didn't lose it. I did get it's pollen and have several crosses with it to start over the winter and sell. For a new plant, it bloomed very well and seemed vigorous so I don't know what happened. As for Boss Hogg, it is fairly new and taking it's sweet time doing much, just like RFK. Both started as single fans and RFK is still a single fan going into it's 3rd year. I've moved it twice hoping that would help. I'm frustrated by it's lack of vigor and increase. Boss Hogg bloomed ok but all the foliage you see in the photo is actually from plants around it. It isn't much of a plant yet....See Moreshive
