Comments (2)It's difficult to respond to verbal statements about things going here and there because the devil seems to be always in the details. I imagine you have some sort of plan just to have done what you've already done, and what you say you're already committed to. If not, scratch out a simple plan and show you're intentions. You can draw it on paper, scan and upload it same as a photo (best). If you don't have a scanner, you can take a photo of it and upload that (second best.) It would be a lot easier to comment on your intentions if we SEE them....See MoreBackyard/Sideyard design ideas

Comments (2)"We know our first priority is probably redoing our back deck but we are unsure if we should keep the same shape." You're there using it and we're not. What are the shape/size dissatisfactions with the deck that you've acquired? At least it looks finished so I don't know if I'd make it the first project. IMO, what makes your yard seem lacking is the lack of landscaping. There's no "foundation" planting around the house. and the yard perimeter planting seems incomplete. The trees are nice but it would look a lot nicer to have a "lawn" of groundcover below them, as opposed to a sparse, dying turf area. Turf is only going to do well where there is adequate light. At minimum, it should be solid, weed-free mulch. But eventually, you'll want groundcover so you don't need to be replenishing mulch on a periodic basis....See MoreFeedback on backyard hardscape design
Comments (4)Years ago my parents installed a redbrick patio. They did a careful job preparing a hard packed gravel and sand base, installing appropriate edging, etc. It lasted well, probably is still there. The only 'issue' they had was with a chipmunk's tunnel. I don't remember how it happened, but they had to make a hole in one brick to let the chipmunk access its tunnel. (Maybe the tunnel was there first? that's the only thing that makes sense.) It was cute, watching Chippy and her babies dive in and out of the tunnel. It never damaged any of the rest of the patio. So yes, red bricks can be low maintenance if correctly installed....See More- 4 years ago
