Whoopie! Assorted Odds 'N Ends Feb 1st
Comments (25)Neil and I went over to that OTHER house and piddled around today. I cleaned the refrigerator and cooked a whole chicken. Trying to get acquainted with the layout of the kitchen. Tomorrow I'm going to clean up all the plaster dust and sit in the living room and try my best to design some shelves, and a contraption for the BIG screen TV for Neil. I picked up hamburgers and we ate in the sun room. Neil bagged up garbage. He is anxious to get moved in. I want to just get settled, don't much care where. I love Katrina's bathroom. The motion light switch works great. I took some pictures and measured our bathroom. It looks pitiful now and I don't have much of a clue about how I'm going to use the space. I bought some new books on decks and patios, bathrooms, kitchens, gardens. I tried out my new Home Depot card. I got the thing because this sweet little old man was so dear and I thought I would just cut it up when it came. When I signed up I bought 2 battery chargers and several rechargeable batteries and got them all for 5 bucks after the promotional percentage was factored in. I only use my Visa and long ago cut up all other cards. Now, I'll cut up the HD card, pay the bill when it comes and be done with it. Would that I were as handy with tools and building as Michelle. My sister can do anything. She built a beautiful fireplace surround and mantle. I can usually design it but I can't build it. Our furry little weather forecaster, General Lee, saw his shadow, bless his heart. The whole month of February is supposed to be mild, go figure. Talk about screwing up spring, our azaleas and dogwoods won't know when to bloom....See MoreOdds and Ends of Information
Comments (28)it is not the bits of infomation that bedevil me, it is the hard copy of what ever passes through my hands. Piles, too many piles. The way I battle that demon is to simply refuse to accept paper whenever possible. At work, I don't take a printed copy of the meeting agenda that I already have on my PDA (and which I will annotate with meeting notes rather than write them down and have to type them later). I ask people to send me information or documents via email or our instant-message client. I copy and paste a lot! Business cards that I know I'll want to keep are entered into the PDA Contacts list and the card goes bye-bye. If I have an electronic copy of something, I toss the paper copy. I do back up my computer hard disk and PDA frequently. Outside of work, it's a little tougher. I periodically sweep through the file cabinet to get rid of owner's manuals to items I no longer own and old insurance receipts, really old tax returns, etc. I don't buy cookbooks anymore since it's easier for me to find recipes on the Internet. If I see something in a newspaper or magazine which interests me, I tear it out and put it in one special pile which is then transcribed into the PDA or my computer the next time I open either one. Magazines and newspapers get tossed when the next edition comes in. I've also throttled the information firehose by not picking up brochures for goods or services in which I'm only a little interested. Instead, I ask if they have a Web site or email -- by the time I'm truly interested (if I ever am), I'm sure things will have changed at least some; why have something outdated on hand? I used to be really bad at picking up just about any free periodical in those racks at the bookstore; I just can't clutter my life with them anymore for the few interesting tidbits I'll pull out of them. It's a matter of being conscious about what paper you accept. Hope that helps.......See MoreOdds & Ends in the refrigerator
Comments (16)Yeah, I know, just kidding!! Actually sounds very yummy, I just thought it was cute the way they described it. I'm actually wondering about maybe doing a couple pints of jardinaire. Would be pricey to buy the veggies out of season, but would make OK Christmas gifts. I dunno, I guess the vinegar will get a temporary reprieve. I just finished my inventory, and I have: 2 bottles chocolate sauce, both half full. One is "light" one is "special dark." Not sure what to do with those, because I do not eat ice cream in the cold months. 1/2 jar pickle relish - anyone have a good potato salad recipe with pickle relish? Ketchup which is going into sweet and sour tofu sauce Crystalizing hot pepper jelly plus some apricot chutney which I think I can combine in the crockpot with chicken. Pickled yellow pepper strips - those have me really stumped. Not sure even why I bought them. Maybe I need to make some nachos. Too many half jars of jam - I need to buy english muffins Some vegetarian fake parmesean which was awful. I hate to toss, but that might be its fate. Poppyseed dressing that only needs cabbage to become coleslaw. And I need to get my pears, crystalized ginger and booze all together in a jar and start them marinating. And a little bit of whipped cream in a spray can. I think I need to make pear upside down cake to finish off the pears and the whipped cream. But I dunno, I have to be gone to a work thing most of this weekend....See MoreHelp! Prep sink placement at end of island
Comments (3)Our island is 7x5 and we placed the prep sink 12" from the end. This makes gives a bit of landing space on the edge side, but not so much that you can't use the sink from that side as well....See Morewdccruise
