sorry so late getting back. we've been finishing up the kitchen and crazy busy. capegirl-- i can't think of any 'cons' except maybe that this particular sink has a stopper that catches water in the top. stupid design... when the stopper just sits in the sink waiting to be used, it catches water in the top. somehow, that grosses me out. but that's not really about the low divide sink-- so no. we really just love everything about it. our dishwasher is also on the left-- just had to be because of this and that. don't mind though... from right to left, we have garbage drawer, sink with disposal on the left, then dishwasher. works really well. no problem. let us all know how yours turns out. -kawh707

Hi Patricia, there are several reasons I am considering a low divide sink. We entertain a good bit, and having 2 sinks is practical. We can put the dirty dishes on the left side, while keeping access to the disposal on the right. (Often, all four of us are in the kitchen working and having two separate sides allows us to keep things flowing.) However, some of our larger pots and baking sheets don't fit well in the fully divided sink. The low divide allows for a big pot with long handle to sit flush in the sink or a large baking pan to be put in the sink, out of the way, without having it stick out of the sink. With a single bowl sink, there is one drain with disposal. While I like the look of the single bowl, I know it would be frustrating for the way we live. So, it is either a low divide or regular divide. Thought we would try it!

"why do you think most folks prefer a single basin?" There are a thousand posts on this topic on this forum if you want to search. But in summary, (1) a single basin sink allows a large pan or pot to lay flat to be soaked, (2) you won't bang into the annoying divider while washing pots and pans, (3) you have more space under the sink because you don't have two drain pipes, (4) you use less water to soak pots and pans because you can lay them flat in the sink and fill them with water rather than having to prop them up against the divider and fill the entire sink bowl all the way to the top and still miss soaking the top third of the pan, (5) if you have a disposal and a two-bowl sink, the side without the disposal always has slimy contents in the drain strainer that you have to dump to the other bowl with the disposal and whichever side the disposal is on, you wished you had the disposal on the other side, and (6) as @joseph_corlett said, two-bowl sinks are relics from when dishwashers were not common, but now most everyone has a dishwasher where the dirty dishes should go (as an aside, do not rinse your dishes before putting in the dishwasher, just scrape).

A D sink is by definition a single-bowl sink. Despite all the comments about "dated" here, that's the sole purpose of the D shape: to make it possible to get the maximum amount of sink in a very, very tight space (because it allows an offset faucet within the footprint of an equivalent rectangle). If you have room for a double-bowl, you have room for a rectangular sink so you wouldn't use a D. You might use a D when you have a 24" sink base and little other counter space, for example, not in a normal-sized layout.
