Comments (31)I love everything you have picked up and for that price I am sooo jealous! I never have that kind of luck. I would try the two lamps with a barrel/drum type shade and try hanging the butterflies vertically in a row between the two lamps. This may sound weird but I think it would keep the eye level. However, I just looked back and I don't think three will fit vertically keeping along the same line as the lamps with even taller shades. Maybe hang two horizontally and one centered underneath the other two, yet still all centered between the lamps. The void on each side of the lower picture would allow a two taller items on the buffet within the lamps or allow something else to hang on each side of the lower picture. I don't know if any of this is making sense. I would however, definately keep a platter or toureen or bowl there in the center of the buffet though with those wonderful shells in it....See MoreStorage ottoman - tray top or hinged?
Comments (7)Wow, unanimous for the hinged ottoman so far! Cool. That one does make sense since I'm not planning to use the ottoman as a table where I would want the tray, and vampiressrn (uh, are you a vampire nurse???) has a good point that I can always put my own tray on top. Amy, you're cracking me up. You're as bad as I am with being overly-analytical. (I get it from my mom - you should hear the conversation she and I had about this earlier. ;-)) That said, I actually have no idea *what* I would be storing in the ottoman. Maybe hats, gloves, & folding umbrellas (to get them off the coat closet shelf), or maybe computer supplies (which might make the ottoman too heavy to move around easily...hmmm). Nicole, I'm not that smart. Purse going on top of ottoman right by door. Not bright. ;-)...See MoreI need help accessorizing fireplace cabinets----pics---
Comments (11)Thank goodness for the home decorating forum. This site has been very helpful to me also. I have become much better at accessorizing over the years, because of looking at all sorts of books and magazines, and there are quite a few sites that will teach you the in's and out's of accessorizing (if you believe there's such a thing). What it does, it provides you with a basic understanding of tablescaping, or accessorizing. I feel it has helped me develop an eye for what works, and what doesn't. Just play with what you have until you feel good with what you've come up with. Sometimes you come up with something you like on the first try. Sometimes you have to just give up for the time being....See MorePlease help me accessorize my finished kitchen! PICS
Comments (34)Rookie - You know I love your kitchen. I agree with Emily - let it happen naturally. I was surprised with my kitchen that little things like dish towels and bowls I already owned are giving me direction for accent colors. I have this great bright/slightly olive green pottery bowl with a bunch of red and yellow tomatoes in it that looks amazing with my gray/white/stainless/natural wood kitchen. I also have some nice darker blue/not quite navy towels that also look great and a vase of sunflowers were "wow". I didn't imagine these were colors that would look good but with such a neutral backdrop vibrant things just pop - real life things not props - in the kitchen. If you really want to find some "colors" - just buy a bunch of dish towels and drape then on your stove for a few days to see how it does....See MoreJAN MOYER
