Different stone choices for exterior & interior??
Comments (1)Two things come to mind -- Do what makes you happy. I watch alot of HGTV for ideas, and when they redo a fireplace, they never consider the outside of the home, at least not that I can recall. It is all about the room where the fireplace is located. Other thing.... pictures can be deceiving. I have seen samples in person and pictures of the exact same thing, and it looks like two totally different things. I have even seen pictures of the same house, taken just minutes apart, and it looks like two different stones, due to lighting, shadows, distance, and exposure, etc. My stone, looks one way on a cloudy day, and looks another way in full sunlight, which I personally love because I love both the gray tones and the earthy tones, so that gives me both :-)...See MoreExterior paint palette- how to coordinate new construction choices
Comments (17)Molly D- I'm so glad to see your house- cocoon is a color we keep going back to for the main house color- I think I want to do a tone on tone trim color so I'll look at hardware for the trim maybe. Your house is beautiful thank you. Grand Finale Design thank you for the suggestion- I will look at that resource. Here are our first round of roof color choices and a photo of the color of stones we are doing the porch and front columns in- thoughts anyone? The front of the house will have stone and beam columns like the photo above- porch floor and steps will be stone - gray and brown colors Emmarrene- you bring up a great point- if you look at our house plan the roof is equal or more area than the siding- it's color is going to be a huge factor. Thank you! This is our first build so I am learning as we go along. I really appreciate everyone's help and advice!...See MorePlease Help: Color Choices for 1970s Mansard & Exterior Refresh
Comments (24)We're ready to start planning our project in earnest and aren't sure the order in which we should do the work or how many different types of contractors we need. I'd appreciate any insights you can give. We hope to use the mockup @ourfarmhouse made for us as our goal (see below). Our exterior projects include: New roof in grey, which will require changing the color of the gutters, etc. Architectural elements, such as the columns at the front entry and on the upper dormer windows, and new shutters Painted front door and garage doors (instead of replacing them, for now) Repaired/repaved asphalt drive way 27'x14' concrete patio has a large crack down the entire length that will need repaired, and we're thinking about a decorative finish like acid-staining This same 27'x14' covered patio will be screened-in, and the existing posts might need replaced or refinished; will be changing from brown posts and ceiling to a color that coordinates with the new grey roof. What types of professionals do we need and/or which types of professionals can be used for multiple projects? For example, can we get by with a roofer (roof/gutters), asphalt/concrete company (driveway/patio), and carpenter (architectural elements, screened porch, painting door/garage door, and hanging shutters)? Is there an advantage to using a general contractor? What order should we follow? Thank you!...See Morefront door exterior and interior color suggestions
Comments (3)I think a new front door and removing the shutters would be my choice. and removing the too big greenery that is hiding part of the door. As for color for the door I would probably do a blue . Reds are tricky with your sidng color. The blue in that flower by yhe garge would be perfect. As for inside first get a much better entry light that will actully light the whole space . I would also paint all the trim outside in a darker shade of the siding since the trim is nothing to highlight . A mich simpler front door would be my choice with the same amount of glass just not the fancy shape or the fancy glass....See Moreshelbycrow86
