I like the brick and stone. But, the finishing material choices should take a backseat to getting the plan finalized. I'm sorry, maybe you like it (?), but your designer needs to do some work on getting the exterior to work with the interior. (I'm assuming the reason for the exterior appearance is solely because you like the interior and that's just the way it worked out...if I'm assuming wrong and you started with the exterior, I really don't know what else to say.) The entryway is completely out of focus with the door and palladian window not lining up. Depending on the interior, it's an easy fix...lose the column (it's irrelevant to the design anyway) and the railings and then center the door. The right side of the front needs a lot of work. If you keep that asymmetrical return in the center area, at least turn the lower area into an actual gable so that the two areas are more delineated. As to the shed roof or full dormer near the front door, that is really really awkward in appearance. Sorry...I really think you need to take some time and get this design nailed down.

Hi, The full range plum looks good on the screen. but ...... Have you seen a house done in either of these bricks? I can't tell you how many houses in Ontario we drove to based on seeing promising red brick hand samples. So often they looked good in the hand samples, but on a full wall was not what we were hoping for. Have you requested some bricks in the brick size you want ? Remember different sized bricks and/or bricks made at different times can look very different, yet all be called the same name. If you post pictures of the brick samples beside your other exterior colours it would be easier for folks to give you an opinion. Colours on a website can be very deceiving. Seeing a house done in the same sized brick (recently done so die lot is same) is always best. Brick sample are better than pictures though, but a house done in the same size and in same die lot is best. Best of luck. Choosing brick is hard! Carol

@Dig Doug's Designs..... I'm digging (no pun intended!) the look of the two tall conifers on either side (garage and front corner). The stone facade on the street side of the garage is also interesting. Can you tell me what program you used to do this?

We have natural (not manufactured) stone on the whole 1st floor of our 2 story home in shades of gray and tan with sparkley mica flecks. We used the same stone on our full wall fireplace with a built in wood box. Everyone compliments us on the choice, and the variety of tones in the stone make changing decor rather easy. We built the home over 40 years ago and have changed paint colors and furnishings several times. I love decorating around the stone and grout colors with seemingly endless possibilities. Most important, the interior stone has never looked dated even after all these years. IMO you should choose a stone you love and then go with it both inside and out.
