Speaking for myself, I hesitate to diagnose your 'bug' without a better image. All I can see is blurry spots. Any chance of an improved (in focus) picture? Also, your observation (and reporting) of their behavior can be helpful: do they move, fly, jump, or are they stationary?

Mealybugs are soft-bodied bugs that appear as white cottony masses. These pests are particularly fond of phaleanopsis plants. Adults are about 2-5 mm long and are easily seen by the naked eye. The first line of defense is to inspect plants regularly for them and signs of them as they lay their eggs in what appears to be a slight cottony residue. An adult female will lay 100-200 eggs that will hatch in about two weeks. Rubbing alcohol from the drugstore in a hand spray bottle is an excellent contact killer. Repeated applications are necessary as alcohol has no lasting effects. For serious infestations, some recommended pesticides are: Malathion 50% EC, oil sprays, or Marathon, 1%. Systemic pesticide applications often require a follow-up treatment to catch newly hatched eggs. Please remember to follow manufacturers recommendations to the letter as misuse of chemicals can cause irreparable harm to plants. Submitted by Rhonda Heide

I wonder if some of the holes in my sweaters are from the beetles rather than moths. I have been blaming the moths. They probably conspire together to destroy as much as possible. You would not have believed the hole in my best cashmere sweater. I know that was a moth because I caught it. Bugs seem to really enjoy cashmere and anything made by Eileen Fisher. They only eat organic. The covers for the box springs is a very good idea. I will look for those. I just wish the darn things weren't so heavy. I have lavender sachets to repel moths as well as those sticky moth catchers. I am on a vendetta against bugs in my house. The weather was warm yesterday and a fly got in the house. I stalked him down and smashed him. Very rewarding. The worst invasion I ever had was fleas. One time we went away for two weeks and put the dog in a kennel. When we got home, a million fleas had hatched and were waiting for their first meal. They were all over our ankles. We had to call for an emergency extermination and wait outside for it to be done. I also threw away all the carpets. Neetsie, I always check for bedbugs when I go to hotels. Glad that was not the case for you!

Those critters are beneficial but they are true bugs and can give you a mean bite. I wouldn't want them inside if you have inside citrus but I leave them alone outside. They prey on other bugs and worms so they can lend you a helping hand. The caveat is they are pretty non-discriminant and I have seen them eating ladybug larvae which are really great to have around. Ladybug larvae eat aphids like candy!
