Comments (31)Jasdip, you can't blame politicians for the metric to Imperial conversion for weight. A kilogram is a standardized amount. A pound of weight in the imperial system is also a standardized amount. When you weigh a pound of (anything) on a metric scale, you'll find it's 454 grams. It's the conversion equivalence, just as 16 C is 61 F or 32F is 0 C. No manipulation is involved. In French, the historical word for pound (of weight and also of money) is "livre", which also means "book". If you go into a store in France or French speaking Belgium where a counter person handles your order (a meat or deli counter for example) and you ask for "un livre" of something, you usually get 450 grams but sometimes 500. To them, it's an ambiguous word and such a request is slightly annoying. Better to ask for 450 or 500 grams explicitly, or half a kilo....See MoreJeopardy! (GOAT)
Comments (9)Interesting take, Jo. I admit I was kind of wondering if either would make a good host. Ken doesn’t really have the voice. James doesn’t really have the personality. Brad could maybe pull it off but he seems to be engaged at his own level, I haven’t seen him really connect with people, which is important for a host. He does have some experience, though, hosting, as I understand it. Maybe Alex is waiting for them to ”break the rules” and send them down the garbage chute, to the stretching machine or juicer, or the like. Oh, wait, that sounds more like Ellen Degeneres’ show or, surely there was a similar game show? What about Julia Collins? I really like her, but perhaps she’s not commanding enough Of a presence. I heard somewhere Neil DeGrasse Tyson was considered?...See MoreDon't forget about Jeopardy GOAT tonite!
Comments (23)Good grief! The three players have been needling each other for months and enjoying every minute of it. They've had an ongoing social media interaction that has been witty and hilariously cutting. James is well respected by the others and he returns it. His comment about Brad's score was very funny, not unkind at all when one knows the backstory of the relationship. Those of us who have watched other championship tournaments with these and other well known players should be well aware of the good humored teasing that goes on between them. James is actually a very sentimental soul and deeply appreciative of his opportunity to participate on Jeopardy and to do so well. My only question is regarding Brad. Usually a stellar performer, he just seemed to cave in this competition. It made me wonder if he is well. Or has he not competed against James or even Ken before and their lightning fast reactions?...See MoreJeopardy made an error
Comments (8)Eh, give them some wiggle room. It's a TV show that provides entertainment, not anything more than that. Mistakes are part of life. You don't want the pilot of the airplane you're in to make a fatal error they can't recover from but sometimes they do. A question on a TV show is far from important. Absolute accuracy 100% of the time in any endeavor can never be achieved....See More- 6 years ago
