Jeopardy: A couple of questions

Does anyone else play "J6," the 6 leftover questions from the day's Jeopardy program? I play it via Alexa on Echo Show, but I think it can be done in various ways. I have fun with it, but it helps that I don't take it very seriously. A couple of times it has refused to accept my correct answer, saying it was incorrect, and one time it actually did the opposite. In that instance the end of my answer was correct, so maybe that's all it heard.

A lot of times I know the answer but can't retrieve in time. This makes me realize why Jeopardy no longer has a Senior Tournament!

Also, how do you like the current host? He's the Executive Producer, and I'm thinking that's how he got the hosting job. I'm not crazy about him, but I haven't quite identified why. He seems a little slick somehow.

I haven’t played the J6. The new guy Mike is so different from Ken, who was so different from Alex! Mike is definitely a game show host, I guess I could get used to him? The game sure feels like it is faster-paced. Alex hosted other game shows before, too, but I haven’t seen them so don’t know whether he handled Jeopardy! differently.

Alex once said that he wasn’t sure he’d do well even in a senior tournament, he wasn’t fast enough anymore.

I've read that a number of guest hosts will come and go until September, the new season. By then they're planning on identifying a permanent new host.

I like Mike, who was slated for a two-week stint, as I did Ken who is now on a new show.

Jasdip, you can't blame politicians for the metric to Imperial conversion for weight. A kilogram is a standardized amount. A pound of weight in the imperial system is also a standardized amount. When you weigh a pound of (anything) on a metric scale, you'll find it's 454 grams. It's the conversion equivalence, just as 16 C is 61 F or 32F is 0 C. No manipulation is involved. In French, the historical word for pound (of weight and also of money) is "livre", which also means "book". If you go into a store in France or French speaking Belgium where a counter person handles your order (a meat or deli counter for example) and you ask for "un livre" of something, you usually get 450 grams but sometimes 500. To them, it's an ambiguous word and such a request is slightly annoying. Better to ask for 450 or 500 grams explicitly, or half a kilo.

couple of floor refinishing questions

1) No, it's not necessary to remove baseboards unless the floor has ben sanded a few times before and there's a raised portion of the floor visible under the base. Scraping off tape, doing minor repairs and repainting is far less work than replacement, which obviously requires caulking, spackling and repainting. 2) It depends on how much area you have and the finish you've selected. The person doing the work should give you an idea, though it's hard to be perfectly accurate until you start sanding and determine how heavy of a grit of sandpaper is required for the first cut.

Checking in. The plants are fabulous. No sign of anymore pests. The one's in the pot are getting so big I had to divide them yesterday, 3 to a pot. They're even bushing out at the bottom! No sun in days, but they don't mind. I just finished ordering insectiside soap that also kills fungus and powdery mildew. Good to go I think. Here's a sad story. I thought of you immediately. lol We're in the country and have a good size of our acre fenced in with dog fencing panels because of our two large dogs. Sometimes a small critter can get in where two panels meet at the bottom, but not often. Yesterday afternoon I looked out the kitchen window and saw a pretty little possom. Thankfully my dogs were inside or it would have been their dinner. When I went outside it immediately played dead and I didn't want to get close to it, so waited for it to go back the way it came in. While watching it from inside, it got up and limped pretty bad. Found some leaves near the fence and laid in it. Later I noticed it got up and was limping along desperately trying to find it's way out. DS was over and he took a look at it while it played dead again and said it had two puncture wounds on it's side, pretty close together. Never heard our dogs barking which they generally do, so I don't know what happened to it. I opened a gate close to the little one and instead of going out he crawed further into the leaves and passed away. It was right before dark so I left him there. This morning he was in the middle of the backyard. LOL Dogs didn't eat him, they just got him out which made it easy for me to lift him with the shovel and lay him under a tree outside the gate. May he rest in peace. Amen.

I took another look from a different point of view. Maybe the bubbles are the little bumps in the yellow section of the leaf in picture 3, like hives on people? Interesting. Not sure what that is, but the plant is so pretty. Keep it isolated and do not prune it.

The first episode that the executive producer hosted he explained that he was a last minute fill in host. They had other guest hosts scheduled, but they weren't able/unwilling to travel with increased Covid rates. I think that he's doing a fine job.

Yep, he's last minute, a fill in...and I appreciate THAT. I'd never heard of him....that's a little off-putting for such a BIG platform, it feels like he hasn't earned the right to be there. Filling Alex Trebek's shoes....MAN! ....what a hard task.

I really like Mike. I think since he is the executive producer and because he has hosted other game shows in the past that he is more comfortable doing it

I didn't realize Mike had hosted other game shows. That explains what I picked up about him. I don't dislike him; I just like Ken better--for now. I read somewhere that Ken said his commitments to another show prevent him from being in the running for Jeopardy's next full-time host.

The J6 game is fun. It uses Alex's voice, which is nice.

I like Alex Trebek, Ken Jennings, and the current host who is a producer... in that order. I don't dislike them but I don't know why. I find him to be entertaining, without overpowering. Seems like he tries to sublimate his own personality, in reverence to the show and Alex.

He comes across, to me, as someone who tries to pay so much tribute to Alex, never is trying to steal his limelight, merely extend the one that Alex earned. And, as has already been explained, he's just a Band-Aid. I'm happy to try on different hosts. I'm hoping for Ken Jennings to be the host ultimately. Much as they did with Jay Leno and The Tonight show.

I think Mike (last name unknown) is really good at hosting and especially with pacing the show, which Ken has some issues with initially. Ken was rushing things. My only knock on Mike is that he is sooooo vanilla. I don't know how to say it better than that.

Oh, and Mike's ending tribute to Alex every night is a bit overdone. Honestly, how much tribute do we need to give Alex Trebek? Certainly not daily.

^^^ I agree on the daily tribute to Alex. I liked Ken Jennings' simple "thank you Alex" at the end of each episode.
