the quest for the 'manly' blue flower
Comments (15)How about some beautiful blue bearded Iris or Dutch Iris in a pot? Those are very "manly" type strong flowers, and they cut beautifully! Also, don't forget Rosemary! A wonderful easy care herb that blooms blue, and gives you joy at breakfast in some fried potatoes, at the barbecue with shrimp strung on it's strong stick like stems, and the list goes on. If you put it in a pot, the HOA can't say a thing!!...See MoreShoe planters?
Comments (17)After doing a search on this forum for shoes and seeing Cindee's Shoe Garden and all the rest of the shoe galleries, I am a little embarrassed to show you mine. All I have is a pair of vinyl boots I found at a yard sale. The rest are old athletic shoes. I still had something else to plant so I dug out an old purse. Then I complained to my DH that I was out of shoes and he dug out a couple single shoes w/o their mates. And later he brought me an old pair of cowboy boots he hasn't worn in years. Boy was I mad when I saw that he had cut off the tops! Dear "sole" that he is - he said he cut them off so they would be easier for me to plant. How can I be mad at him for that! But I fixed him - I put pots in the tops and planted in them, too! We've been on a short camping trip and as soon as we got back Sun nite, I took some pictures and posted them on WebShots. Not much, but its a start. Last nite I remembered another pair - golf shoes he had bought at a yard sale and never wears. I'll add their picture as soon as I get them planted. I'm out of sedum and will try something else in them. Thanx for all your help, Barbara. Comments (43)So many good suggestions still coming in--appreciate that. I won't be ordering until after Thanksgiving (or maybe after Xmas), so I'm open to any more beautiful ideas. I'm looking them all up. Some I kinda know. But I don't know much of anything about Mrs. Dudley Cross, cherrykist. Is it hardy in Zone 6? HMF say Zone 7--but I know it is sometimes rather conservative on hardiness. And I'm not sure about its height since HMF says 3-5 ft (or something like that). What is your experience--does it stay around 3 ft? It is a lovely rose, but not a type I have ever seen, so I'm not sure what to think about it. It's really cool looking at all the gorgeous pics--thanks everyone. Kate...See MoreNEW: Nth (?) Annual Theme Garden Swap
Comments (141)Carrlinesue's package arrived today. I know Moonphase's will be here soon, so I am busily sorting & doing a preliminary check for each person on what was sent vs. what was sent in for them. One of the neat things about this swap is having two ways of packaging. Those that package by individual player make it very easy on the initial sort process. But of course, some of the things that are sent in for a player are the exact varieties they sent to others - since I try to send back all new stuff (don't always succeed 100%, but I have a pretty good track record), the ones who send in seeds packaged by themes they will fit into - and I decide where they go - make the second round much easier. It's all good! :) Kim, the master of the run-on sentence (yikes!)...See MoreFunkyart
