Comments (5)Suprised linksys doesn't have a CD install that prompts you thru most of the settings and security setting. Mostly I find its not knowing the technical wording that confuses & scares people. Really not much to it. Pick a channel your neighbors not on... 1, 6, or 11 hopefully as they have perfect non overlapping radeo wave frequency. Change the 'ssid' = name of your 'radio station' to something other than linksys. Some check boxes for PSK & WPA = basicly the type of secure phrase it will accept. 128 bits is fine on encryption. Make a passphrase, I used my firstnamelastname. With a twist. Make sure you copy& paste that passphrase and get it on each computer before pushing the set button. Then add or change the login/password on the login to the wifi access point/router. Most of that just flows with, next page, next page in the routers wifi setup. Comments (3)You are only suppose to paint the inside of exterior walls of a building or the walls of a room where you want to block out cell phones like a conference room or a room where sensitive equipment might be vulnerable to interference like a hospital. Since cell phone jammers are now illegal in most countries, this aluminum paint appears to be a cheaper solution than a Faraday Cage. One practical application is to use the paint in prisons where one of the problems is gangs smuggling cell phones in to communicate with each other. I found an older article about WiFi blocking paint although I see now that it uses copper and not aluminum. http://www.wiredhome-weblog.com/50226711/wifi_blocking_paint.php "Wi-fi blocking paint Filed in archive Wi-fi by george elvin on August 17, 2006 Wi-fi blocking paint NaturalNano has developed a spray coating embedded with copper-filled halloysite nanotubes which can be applied to the walls of a room, providing a passive blocking agent for radio frequency (RF) energy. "Many existing structures including concert and convention halls, movie theaterslinks, and other buildings could benefit from enhanced control over outside radio frequency radiation with a passive, cost-effective solution," said Michael Riedlinger, President of NaturalNano. They've combined the shielding coating with a technology that enables authorized users to log onto a private network in an area that is otherwise RF shielded. "This technology," said Riedlinger, "also allows the facility operator to potentially charge fees for wireless access within an otherwise RF shielded environment." Comments (11)It was pretty easy to install, did it in an afternoon. We did have some questions but we got on the phone with them and they walked us through it. We had another company come out and quote us on a hard wired system and they wanted almost 3,000.00 dollars and the $45.00 dollars a month. We paid around 500.00 for the Simpli safe. You can construct your system to meet your specific needs. For example, we have heavy steel doors into the garage and our front door. No one is going to get in those doors but we have a lot of windows and sliders. A lot! We mostly bought Glass shattering monitors for every room. That is what we felt we needed and what I was most concerned about. If someone were to break a window or glass door on the other side of the house, I wouldn't hear a thing if I was sleeping. Now I will. I did not want a bunch of un-needed things like motion detectors and such, I just wanted to know an intruder entered the house by breaking the glass. I have not actually set different codes for guests or service people yet but it's very easy. There is also a "HOME" setting and an "Away" setting. since I leave through my garage. I just leave it on home all the time and I don't have to mess with it, it is always on....See MoreJeffrey R. Grenz, General Contractor
