Electrical Outlet Placement
Comments (1)Love your question - just last night I was wandering around my house thinking that if I ever build a house I will line the walls, hallways, kitchen, closets and bathrooms with outlets. I have the usual outlets in my house but I can never reach one. Drives me nuts. I vote to put as many in as you can. The bigger the better. The cost difference is minimal once you pay the electrician to install them. Good luck and enjoy all those outlets - I am very envious....See Moreoutdoor electrical outlet placement and uses?
Comments (16)bluesanne I love that! I have a bass and guitar playing son who named our dog Hendrix. Just tonight he (my son not my dog) used one outdoor outlet to vacuum out the car that he drove to The Peach Music Festival. I use my outlets for holiday lights in front, party lights in back, and sometimes random stuff on the sides (like an electric hedge trimmer.) Super handy and wouldn't plan a new house without them. For outlets that you'll use for holiday lights, be sure to have them work from switches inside the house so you don't have to go outside and unplug them when you want to turn them off. (Timers work too, but I like having the option of switches.) Placement: one in back, near the driveway side of the house; one on the side on the non-driveway side of the house; two in front on either side of the front door....See MoreElectrical Outlet Box Placement - Wall Oven In Base Cabinet
Comments (6)This is from the manual for the induction cooktop for mounting over a wall oven. Both the cooktop and wall oven would be Bosch so I can only assume they have thought about how to make their appliances play nice with each other. The cabinets would be from Ikea. Based on this picture it seems like the only space for an outlet box behind the oven (one that is not flush with the wall at least) is up high. That area seems a little tight, not sure if makes sense to try to cram anything in there. The planned base cabinets to the left and right of the oven cabinet would have drawers. The Ikea stuff leaves a few inches of space between the back of the drawer and the wall, so presumably this will accommodate outlet boxes with a side entry. I understand ranges are a much easier but we are starting from scratch in this kitchen renovation and the aim is for nicer, as long as it's feasible of course....See MoreElectrical/Lighting Layout
Comments (4)If this is a remodel, what do you mean you need help with electrical outlet placement? Who did the drawing, will there be an electrician involved? Do you have certain needs being generic outlet locations? Same questions for lighting in a remodel. For the recessed lighting, what is the overriding concept you are going for? E.g., there will be no table lamps? You have no furniture, like a console to light up, or art wall or fireplace? You will have to specify exactly what and how the vaulted ceiling is oriented. Is it a vault (1 slope to a single point) or a cathedral (2 slopes symmetrical about a ridge)? And where do you have kitchen upper cabinets?...See MoreBruce in Northern Virginia
