Downsizing my purse.
Comments (16)mtdrdredux, its one thing to carry a large stylish bag like you have. Its another to have a bag with everything but the kitchen sink crammed in it. My keys are huge but they were always lost in my big purse. DH said maybe I wanted to keep the big purse in case I ever needed it. I said if I ever get a big purse again it will just be for style. There are times and places for tote bags etc. I'm trying to avoid becoming what I call a "bag" lady. A woman who has had many birthdays who constantly carries bags of some sort around. My 85 yo mom says that she sees the look on my face if she gets in my car with a "bag". Everytime we went somewhere she carried a bag with drinks, all kinds of stuff. We were only going out for the afternoon to run errands and to do some shopping!!!...See MoreHow to best take advantage of a home organiser?
Comments (16)P.S. There is a difference between downsizing and organizing. The skill sets cross over, and many organizers are also offering downsizing services to help Boomers and their parents, but make sure you have contracted with someone who does this, to avoid wasting time. Downsizers usually offer the service of taking the stuff away after the session. If not, you need to work with them to have a system in place, otherwise you will just end up with boxes full of stuff YOU need to get rid of. From the get-go, the organizer should set up a system of categorizing stuff into piles by where it is intended to go. Goodwill, recycling, trash, domestic abuse shelter, etc. Find out what your recycling center does and does not take ahead of time. Same with domestic shelter needs, church collection services, etc. If your local library has a book sale, find out when and where they take donations. Etc., etc. Also forgot to mention, give some thought to how you do want to organize what is left. For example, I have shelving units in my bedroom, and there is a certain size and type storage container that fits on them. I have a set of spare ones too, which would have some in handy during an organizing session, instead of using off sized opaque brown boxes with the intent of later getting the right-sized clear storage containers for the stuff. Be ready to be free of what you don't want by the end of the session and have what is left all organized. This may require some pre thought and planning on your part. Or two sessions with the organizer. A short consultation visit might be best beforehand under those circumstances....See MoreCats, Anxiety, Feliway
Comments (24)We had to go the Prozac route with our Gabby Mayhem, she had some kind of anxiety with peeing, to the point that she was holding it (then it would concentrate) and then it would hurt when she went. So then the litter box (in her mind) was the devil making it hurt, so she'd find other creative places to try to pee comfortably. We were at our wit's end and finally tried the drugs, and it had an almost immediate effect. We kept her on it for a couple of months, and then she kinda told us she was done and didn't need it anymore. She started acting more and more lethargic, so we knew it was time, she had just lost some of her Gabby-ness. We weaned her off, and she's doing great! If you do end up going that route, ignore all the info saying you can't mask it and have to give it by pilling them. I got a small stainless mortar & pestle and would grind it to a powder, and mix it in Almo nature tuna and sardines, and she ate every bit, no problem. (Regular canned tuna in water worked too.) We tried the feliway collars and they didn't work....See MoreFacebook marketplace
Comments (16)I thought if I donated it that it would get discarded because nobody would know what it was. I offer this kind of thing on the Buy Nothing group. Or if it's something so nice I really don't want to see it festering in a goodwill. It's also good for things you can't donate -- like roller shades, or an open box of expensive laundry detergent that I didn't like. The Buy Nothing group is restricted to your neighborhood. I only have to sift through a few takers, and I choose one and arrange a "porch pick up", where they just come and get it w/o any contact (I know it's a little antisocial but whatever). It's way more convenient than trying to sell something....See Morejust_terrilynn
