Black Walnut Seeds: Messed up timing for planting. Need Advice.

I have a bunch of rare thin shelled black walnut seeds I collect in the fall of 2018 and stored in the fridge at about 37 degrees through the winter. Had to make space and removed them last spring. Didn't get around to planting them. They were then stored in a room averaging about 70 degrees until now. I'd like to sprout them in pots. Should I plant them now in Sept. 2019? (Zone 5a, Iowa.) Or should I put them back in the fridge and plant in pots next spring? I've heard they don't germinate well after a year. If put in pots now, how best to store though the winter? Thanks.
