Here's an idea for you: I moved the fridge closer to the DR so it's easier to grab milk or whatever else you need to grab to put on the table. It also means that anyone in the LR or DR won't have to traipse through the cooking zone to get to the fridge. The downside is that anyone coming from the FR will need to walk through the kitchen. If that's a concern, consider adding a bev fridge in the island facing the pantry. The fridge is a counter depth fridge. If you prefer a standard depth fridge, you should increase the aisle width and decrease the island's size accordingly. I moved the clean-up sink and DW to the windowless wall. That's the only wall where I put uppers. You could do uppers on each side of the range or you could enlarge the windows and bring more light into the kitchen (helps with your concerns about creating a dark kitchen). I put a prep sink in the island. I didn't realize until I drew it out and did the math, how large your island would be. You've more than enough room for a prep sink, plus it will come in handy whether you use the island for art projects (water for water colors) or for baking (water nearby to rinse sticky hands). I did not place the prep sink at the corner of the island on purpose. I wanted to keep that end clear to give you a place for putting bags of groceries carried in from the garage. There is a row of shallow (15") cabs beneath the island. Use these to store seldom used items. Or maybe kiddy art supplies. They won't object to climbing under the counter on a daily basis like us adults. ;-) The island is large enough to accommodate 5 seats. wow, ok now I just feel impatient. My GC said 5 weeks, which would have been the end of July. However, he would not start demo until the cabinets were within 1 week of delivery. That planning worked out well. I also had the flooring, appliances, lighting all here at the house days before needed as the plan was laid out. He was here pretty consistantly for 3 weeks and then started just not appearing. Week 5 they did not come at all (we were on vacation, but they were going to "finish" while we were gone) Then i had 1 guy here for about 6 days straight and he did all the molding, hung doors, etc. Electrician came for 2 days and did all the lights/appliances, except the undercabinet lighting. I think it is the list of things left, in addition to the list of things done that they have to redo that is just driving me bonkers. that and the fact that no one has been here for days. If it was 1 or 2 big projects (like put in pantry shelves) then I could be calmer - maybe? I would love to be in Jeff's position, a slow, steady, but quality job. Maybe he will actually show up tomorrow as promised on the phone today. :) I feel like Annie - the sun will come out tomorrow! Kellykath - nothing wrong with you, but it does take time! As to how functional it will be and what you can do with it, that will depend on not only the materials, but where you are (see directions below as to how to add this info to your profile so it posts next to your name) and how much sun/shade the greenhouse currently gets. I'd start by cleaning the walls well inside and out to get rid of any dirt or algae, and then put a high-low thermometer in it to see what kind of temperature range is there, and also check how much light seems to be going through the walls, perhaps with a light meter to contrast with its reading outside. The wall appear to be Kalwall currently, which is a material designed for optimal light transmission. It does decrease effectiveness with age. I agree that your roof can be replaced with corrugated material that has better light transmission such as the translucent form of Onduline, though if you will have plants in it in summer, you may need to also have shade cloth and good ventilation.
