Anyone have an easier/ better idea for master suite layout?
Comments (5)an open closet in the bathroom? no. absolutely not. make that a separate area. wall it off from the bathroom and have the entry from the bedroom area. that shower you have there,,,does that say 6'? it's hard to read the diagram. we redid our complete bathroom/bedroom. I put the master across from the bathroom. (also an addition). Houzz did a story on it here: (I have diagrams) [https://www.houzz.com/magazine/reader-bathroom-a-plant-filled-master-bath-no-tub-needed-stsetivw-vs~85330392[(https://www.houzz.com/magazine/reader-bathroom-a-plant-filled-master-bath-no-tub-needed-stsetivw-vs~85330392) BTW, moving that sewer line is the absolute worst on a slab. You better confirm you have enough room for the proper slope for that sewer line. I had to get mine checked out first by my plumber before we even started this fiasco. we had to dig almost 30'. (had to hire someone w/a commercial concrete saw. no way we could have done that ourselves) I can't even tell you how horrible this process is.... the guy who cut this actually does it commercially for a living. took him almost 4 hours. (he didn't even charge us that much, but I would have paid him double if he asked!) We removed all of the chunks ourselves. hope you have strong young men/teenage boys to help! cutting the slab from that wall, all the way down to the opposite walltoilet is just to the right of where he is,,,,shower drain is below, where the L ends....See MoreMaster Suite Layout
Comments (3)Hello and congrats! I really like your 2nd floor plan where you have a larger walk in and larger bathroom. I know it takes up those precious windows that you have, but I think those small nooks in bedrooms where you can barely put a sofa are so awkward to decorate. Really think about what you will be using this room for. If watching TV from a sofa or reading a book from an accent chair is what you will be doing in here then by all means go with floor plan 1 where you leave some room for that, BUT if you will mainly be sleeping or possibly watching TV from your bed please forgo the sitting area in a master. It's really not necessary and you would definitely rather use that space for more clothes storage or a roomier bathroom. So nice and so exciting for you guys!...See MoreAwkward 1980s master suite layout redesign help!
Comments (2)Edit 2: In the 2nd pic, the 3rd idea about putting an office nook in place of the current closet would be similar to this: https://www.houzz.com/hznb/photos/my-houzz-1896-victorian-home-gets-a-contemporary-lift-eclectic-home-office-san-francisco-phvw-vp~20898749...See MoreAdvice on Master Suite Layout
Comments (8)I'm interpreting that the layouts have progressed from: 1) standard model; 2) his/hers "utilitarian" both separate; 3) his/hers "luxurious" separate bath with shared closet. From a larger perspective, it seems that typically when one wants to incorporate separate his/hers areas, a "luxurious" house size and genre would take advantage of complete separated "retreats." As opposed to only "utilitarian" where it could be just a separate toilet/sink for stink or splatter. In the assumed third schematic, the "luxury" part was focused on for the bath, but not the separate "retreat" part. So reading between the lines the progression of where you would ultimately like to be: Also from another wide perspective point of view, to begin with, going modular today has less savings than in the past. And usually, when you custom design to the extent you are, much of that savings is eliminated. Add on the fact that modular presents many limitations as to layout, so a truly custom design is hampered quite a bit for what might end up being a 2% savings....See MoreSativa McGee Designs
