Shower tile all the way to the ceiling or not?
Comments (6)Hi, we just finished a master bath remodel similar to the look you are going for, white subway tile and frameless glass enclosure. We did tile all the way to the ceiling and I think it's a cleaner, nicer look than stopping short of the ceiling a foot or two. The only situation I see where you wouldn't want to tile up to the ceiling is if you have very, very tall ceilings in a small space - would emphasize the height too much and throw everything off balance I think. From your picture, it looks like you have standard 8 foot ceilings, so I would definitely tile all the way up if I were you. I can try to take a picture of my bathroom so you can see the look, but if you search for "white subway tile bathroom" you can find lots of helpful pictures through google images. Good luck with your bathroom remodel!...See MoreTile gurus - chair rail in middle with subway to ceiling?
Comments (3)Whoah! Stop the presses right now. Forget get the pretty stuff for a bit, you've got ISSUES here. They are tiling right on top of green board in the shower area. (It's not painted with Hydroban, right?) That a HUGE NO NO! You need to put a stop to that RIGHT NOW! Tile in a wet area should be installed only on cement board over a vapor barrier. Or else you need to have a topically applied waterproofing membrane (the above mentioned Hydroban or Redguard) under the tile. You have big time moisture and mold damage waiting to happen with the way they are doing your shower. It must be stopped immediately....See MoreTile all the way up? Or casing/paint on garden window?
Comments (14)dianalo, Thanks for that vote of confidence. Soapstone is the counter. Paint or wood worries me, as this will be used for a functional herb garden. In the NE in the winter, good, fresh herbs are hard to come by, that's not ridiculously expensive. We don't know how paint or stain will hold up with the watering. remodelfla, no wood frame as yet. Just bare bones from the install. But we can do that option. ellendi, the BS will be subway, but since it is back ordered we can do whatever⦠up the sides. By halfway are you meaning to the bottom of the cabs, and painting the sides of the window and up and over? Thanks for clarifying. We can cut the pieces but that said, you may be right that it might not look good. Thanks, abbeys. I'll run all this by the GC tomorrow. I do think the wood trim would offset it nicely as well....See MoreTile all the way to the ceiling: yay or nay?
Comments (16)Counters are beech butcher block, waterloxed but no stain. I also thought all the way to the ceiling. It's so close anyway, seems silly to stop just shy. Contractor already said he would take the hood down so I can put up tile if I wanted it to go all the way up. God bless him, he knows my decision making abilities are impaired at this point in the project. I have tile samples on the way of all the above plus a few I didn't save pictures of. Will post back with actual images in situ once they arrive. Back to the sawdust......See MoreSina Sadeddin Architectural Design
