Looking for advice on 30' gas range (free-standing)
Comments (12)Convection is something I use frequently and would recommend. From what I hear, the warming drawers at this price point are not worth the money/space. Regarding the center burner... If I had a choice, I would rather spend the money on 4 good burners (15k BTU+) than 4-5 mediocre burners, but in this price range, they all seem to be a similar setup (probably built by the same 2 companies). I have a hard time envisioning a decent size griddle getting evenly heated with any of these center burners. The Frigidaire has slightly higher burner output on average, but then there's that CNB to deal with....See MoreBest Affordable Slide-In Range?
Comments (16)Another positive opinion for induction from me. We changed to an induction cooktop a little more than a year ago and I love it. Two years earlier I had purchased a portable induction hotplate to test the waters. I soon found that it was the first burner I used and began to replace my cookware. It wasn't even hard for me to give my my large collection of copper cookware to a family member with a Wolfe range. I kept all the short handled pieces that I could still use in my oven. We would have made the change to the induction top far sooner but my heart surgery and long complicated recovery put the changes on delay. The only caution I would suggest to you is don't buy a hybrid top (2 electric burners and two induction). You won't use the electric ones because the induction is so much more responsive and you'll still have the pain of cleaning up cooked on stuff on the electric burners. I use all of my cast iron cookware, enameled and not, on the induction top with no problems and have acquired a set of three SS pressure cookers, several skillets and saucepans and a large stockpot. All are SS with triclad bottoms. Good luck in finding the perfect range for you. Lee...See More"best" 30" slide in induction range or what to look for/look out for
Comments (25)Well I obviously had a DUH moment - jwvideo thanks for pointing out this one is a radiant - I completely missed that. My last range was a KitchenAid slide in with the lip you refer to and it eventually collected gunk at that lip line. I assume a lip-less model will collect gunk in the crack between it and the counter eventually - to-ma-toes to-mah-toes. bruce you are so right about the Elux website. If they can't keep discontinued model off there then what is the consumer to do? The nearest showroom to me that has any Elux models on the floor is 45 minutes away, I've been there 2x to look at everything and will obviously have to do more research. We can recess our refrig so don't need the counter depth and thought we'd go all Elux, too. BUT..... that Frigidaire smudge proof stainless really is amazing. I spoke at length with the maintenance person at the appliance showroom - he was walking the floor removing fingerprints which he says is a full time job there. He highly recommended the Frigidaire finish - knows nothing about features of course so we checked out the Frigidaire refrig and dishwashers while there. The Elux refrig is certainly prettier on the inside but I didn't see a big functional difference and dishwashers were very comparable in my mind so we may have a split kitchen which is fine with our layout. I promised myself I would NOT over analyze building this house - it's not easy....See MoreHave to choose between Miele 30" induction range vs. Miele gas range
Comments (33)AVOID MIELE RANGES. UNRELIABLE UNITS. TERRIBLE SERVICE. We've had Miele dishwashers for literally decades; they have been great, trouble-free performers. Not so the 36" gas range that we bought for a kitchen reno in 2016. The design is nice and the basic functionality is great, but the reliability is the absolute pits. MIele released this line of products before they were ready for prime time. And Miele knows it. We have had burners replaced several times for ignition failures. Last time around the technician replaced all six burners with "upgrades" (I'm guessing, redesigns that cure the faults of the original burners). The little part that detects when the oven door is closed and shuts off the broiler if it's open? It melted when the (extremely hot) broiler was on for more than a few minutes. The rubber feet for the grates constantly disintegrate; we've gone through literally a dozen of them. And now that our unit is out of warranty, Miele wants $32 each for replacements (and there are no aftermarket parts available anywhere). The latest problem is the oven door latch mechanism, which has failed so that the unit will not go into self-clean mode. Making matters worse, Miele's service operation was gutted during the pandemic and has not recovered. Their call center is offshore somewhere, and the people are clueless about the products. As for the technician dispatch in NJ ... don't get me started. Totally dysfunctional. The techs themselves are highly competent ... when you can actually get someone to come. Constant scheduling screwups, technicians not being told what parts to bring, several week lead times, etc. Their service is beyond unacceptable for a premium-priced brand. And we have yet to find a third-party repair service that will work on Miele ranges (dishwashers yes, ranges no). I'm sorely tempted to throw the thing out and go with Blue Star or Wolf. AVOID....See Morejaxo
