If recommend trivet rods next to the range instead, and make a practice of using your DW so you don’t need dishes draining on the counter! The #1 issue with solid surface is burns or ghosting from people having a bit too venturesome hot pan accident. Trivets and cutting boards are needed, but sometimes in an emergency, they aren’t the handiest if you didn’t get them out at the beginning.

Thanks TheCooksKitchen but we have many pots, knives, pottery we hand wash so will continue to not use dishwasher for those items. I'm not worried about burns because we have trivets etc. More interested in drainboard advice.

I want to say that I read that doing runnels in solid surface is a challenge. Someone will be along shortly to confirm or correct.

I love my sloped drainboard in my soapstone countertop- smooth top- no runnels, easy to clean. Can use as a regular countertop if desired .
