Starting from dirt- literally! A basement bath DIY Adventure
Comments (157)I did see this! And yes, I still LOVE it five years later. We still haven't begun the 2nd-floor bathroom, aka the 1925 Hall Bath/Faux Master which is our only bathroom on the bedroom level with a clawfoot tub & a shower ring. So the Starting From Dirt Basement Bathroom is still my favorite place to shower. So here's how to do the Starting From Dirt Basement Bath set up: Hansgrohe Ibox rough in Shower & tub fixtures - Hansgrohe Rain S Showerhead & hand shower S Thermostatic Trim with Volume Control and Diverter (tub to shower) Kohler HydroRail Shower Column and Diverter (showerhead to hand shower) Metris S tub filler The Tub Filler & Hydrorail are tied together at the Ibox by the diverter on the shower trim, the two showerheads switch between each other on the Hydorail. Run it all by your plumber - I don't know if all these parts (especially the hydrorail) are still available! Good luck! Comments (31)earth_pal, I would appreciate a chance to ask you about your kiln installation. You don't have an email link on GW, but could you possibly send me an email via my GW email link? Alternatively, I'm going to start a thread in the pottery forum in the next day, in case you ever check in there. davidro1, I've sent you an email. Thanks. riverspots, I've looked at the total BTU output because that matters for venting and heating up the room. I see your point that the temperature of each adjacent combustible object matters for ignition. Those temps won't get anywhere near that high as there will be nothing combustible within at least a couple of feet (other than my legs). The nearest cabinet will be appx 24'' away. If I did put a ''landing space'' counter next to the range, it would be a small steel filler table. For reference, ignition temp of wood is >420F and of grease/oil is appx 700F. brickton, growlery's point that smooth surfaces are easier to keep grease-free makes a lot of sense to me. The brick would work for a woodstove, but (from the research I've done) you still need concrete board/fire board and an air gap behind that....See MoreHELP with late 60s bathroom
Comments (92)I think I have the same "pink". A lot of the true pinks like the flamingos in the wallpaper Pal posted--which I DID try--don't quite go. And the one Tartan linked is just too much of a not-quite-good thing, although I didn't check it out in person. Howsabout tropical (I know, they don't really have pink flowers....but hey)?...See MoreTile dilemma - shower
Comments (20)peke, cement board is fine. you have a choice of vapor barrier. before cement board goes up, you do a plastic (or tar paper) vapor barrier over the studs then your Cementboard. (if it's an exterior wall, you'll have to do proper insulation before anything else) If you do this you do NOT waterproof the cement board. Tape the joints (2" high alkali resistant, glass fiber tape), mortar them and all the proper fasteners. (corrosion resistant wafer head screws. NOT drywall screws) read this on how to position the CBU https://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=128082&highlight=distance+of+screws+on+CBU The other option is to not do a vapor barrier behind, and do Redgard over the cement board. You don't do both because you'll create a mold sandwich. Mkay? the other option is to find an old-school tile guy who muds. (wire lath and mortar) This way you'll get perfectly straight / plumb walls to tile on. never put green board in a wet area. never. how to tile a shower/tub: https://books.google.com/books?id=F5W1IUKdrvEC&pg=PA218&lpg=PA218&dq=proper+spacing+for+CBU+screws+on+shower+CBU&source=bl&ots=12siwRlsnC&sig=ACfU3U0pHKzGhMAvaM0GNbeM2x5ioGrPYQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj34p_lycrpAhXtoFsKHaxiBgcQ6AEwAHoECAoQAQ#v=onepage&q=proper%20spacing%20for%20CBU%20screws%20on%20shower%20CBU&f=false this is the "library" where they have everything you need for research https://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&f=8&page=1&pp=60&sort=title&order=asc...See Moremillworkman
