kitchen decor ideas

Need ideas for above the cabinet decor. Or do I leave them empty? I don’t it overdone and full of stuff that just collects dust... but it seems like it could use something. Any ideas?

I would do so sparingly, if at all. Maybe a single statement piece? Just don't put a huge EAT sign up there :)

I would leave it alone. The slope of the ceiling will make it hard for you to achieve a symmetrical look where you have the most room. Plus in general, i don't like things on top of kitchen cabinets. If you must put something there, perhaps some large ginger jars.

Thank you all for your feedback! I am going to try some ideas for the area to the right of the sink and see what works. With regard to the island, we are planning to add some trim detail and paint it. However, I'm not sure what color to paint it yet. Additionally, I was worried the kitchen might start to look chopped up if we paint the island a lighter color - considering we have two other large runs of cabinetry in the dark cherry/mahogany stain. (double oven wall / coffee bar area plus the wine/ China / hutch area). Any thoughts on painting the island a lighter color?

I would definitely remove the stickers off everything. Then I would buy a big bowl, in colors you like, and fill it full of fruit for the island. Pottery with colors are usually made in Portugal or Italy and Pier One would be a good place to look. A big milk pitcher with a lot of detail would also work on the island and you could fill it with fresh flowers to go with the season. I think an accessory or two would be all you need to get some color into the kitchen.

I’d put the lemon tree or topiary to the right of your range area, just to balance out the tall glass cabinet on the left. I’ve done the same in my own kitchen - put a tallish topiary to the left near the window, to balance out the tall glass cabinet to the far right. Also the wood trim on the bottom of your vent cover is making it feel unbalanced with the black and white drapery. I would put some decorative wrought iron hanging on your range hood cover to give it more presence.

any chance you can purchase more cabs to fit over the fridge? looks somewhat odd w/that open space. make sure the cabs come out even w/the other cabinets would also be cool if you could fit the fridge in a panel cabinet, like this one Or maybe you could have a little cubby (or wine rack or something) made for you to put above the fridge do you have a dining table?

I would leave it empty and focus on putting decor in the main kitchen to draw the eye, so the space isn’t as noticeable. I don’t think you want it to be a focal point, so best to ignore it and focus on making other focal points.

IF I added anything up there, I would keep it to 1 area and very simple...and natural. Maybe add some large baskets in the corner and leave everything else bare. I would add some low-light loving greenery, and repeat the basket tone in cutting board or a bowl of fruit on the island.
