This is the current hardwood in the coop. The kitchen is currently completely gutted. We need 120 square feet of tile for the kitchen, to give you an idea of the space. Any suggestions?

What are your design choices for the kitchen - cabinets and counter.

We are leaning towards having grey base cabinets with a grey island and white upper cabinets. Counter tops would also probably be a flat white.

You need to make decisions since floors need to complement the cabinets and counter.

Gray may or may not work with your dark wood floors which seem to read "warm" whereas most gray reads "cool".

I don’t have a creative bone in my body. I hated the dark wood floors but they grew on me. Given the floors, what type/shade of flooring and cabinets do you think would look best? Thanks for all your help!

Have you seen the large square tiles that look like antiqued parquet wood flooring? Since the colors vary within the tile and the tile has a pattern, it may work if you can find one with a color that compliments your wood floor.

Your dark floors will not be a problem with gray cabinets. Gray always needs something in the room to "warm it up" and a warm wood does just that.

Are the floors solid hardwood? If so, one option would be to install unfinished wood floors with the same wood, then sand and refinish all of them for a continuous floor throughout.

The floors are solid hardwood. I wish we could do that but the floors are relatively new and we would rather not strip and refinish the entire coop.

Where they finished in place? It looks like they were. Recently enough that the same finisher could replicate it? I would probably still go that route, because even if it's not a perfect match in the immediate term, it gives you the option of a perfect match and continuous floor some day.

What people are suggesting is that a skilled flooring person can "weave in" the new hardwood floors with the existing wood floors. No one on the internet can tell you if this is a possibility as you need to find someone to come out and let you know if it is feasible and the cost. In an open kitchen which is probably what exists in your condo, many people prefer to have the same flooring throughout.

The alternative is to put down some type of flooring that works with the existing flooring and your other design choices. At this point, it's pretty much a blank slate. Who is helping you with your other design choices?

It would be too costly to install hardwood floors. Which is why we originally planned on going with vinyl flooring. We also considered laminate. However we’re not sure if the fake wood would look funny. We’re open to other suggestions that may look better.

You can’t install fake wood next to real wood whether that is laminate, vinyl planks or wood look ceramic.

If you want to go with vinyl, I would go with a stone or tile look, rather than wood, so as not to call attention to the fake-ness.
