Tell me where to find GREEN Subway tiles
I am currently doing a kitchen facelift---getting some solid surface countertops (WilsonArt Whisper White) which is a white with soft gray veining reminiscent of marble and painting the existing cabinets a white or off-white (haven't decided yet). My original plan was to go with white subway tile for the backsplash, but I don't want a total white-out.
I have always loved green and I think a seafoam/celadon sort of soft green would be nice. Have seen several kitchens that used this combination and have loved it. I have a small kitchen so I would be willing to splurge for the just-right color. I prefer tiles that look slightly handmade or have something like a crackle finish.
My inspiration is below---that color green is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for and I love how there is slight variation in the coloring of the individual tile. Unfortunately I understand this tile, which was Walker Zanger "Mizu" has been unfortunately discontinued.
Anyone have any alternatives similar to this? Not really a big fan of the glass tiles---prefer porcelain.

4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoHere is my green tile. Jeffrey Court Spanish moss color. Online it looks more gray but in reality, it is a soft green. Cost is around $18/square foot.

Comments (19)mtnrdux, I think you could really tell the difference between the Subway Ceramics version and newer subway tile if you had them installed side by side. The American Olean 3x5 I have from Lowes in my bath are perfectly nice, but they aren't quite authentic in terms of flatness - they have a bevel to them that reflects the edges and makes them look more modern. Schnauzer, both Emser and Lanka Tile make a nice white subway that's slightly less $$ than the Subway Ceramics version. Comments (12)I searched exhaustively for this for several months...sadly it doesn't exist for under $18/SF (Subway Ceramics, but they don't do colors). After that it heads north of $25/SF. If you can swing that, there are some nice options---there's an old thread listing several, including Heath (handmade but we went to look at them and they thought we could probably pull off a skinnier grout line than their recommended 3/8") and I think Sonoma Tile and a company in Portland whose name escapes me. Comments (1)I believe Emser Tile (Cape Cod I think??) has what you are looking for. At one time I had over 25 samples of crackle subway tile samples so I am pretty familiar. Comments (5)She means The Tile Shop. Remember when we used to capitalize? This reminds me of a ceramic tile mural Ickaisgirl has in her kitchen. She used subways for her field tile, so it was a ceramic tile that came in mosaics and field tile. I have a photo of her mural on my laptop and I'd have to search for her kitchen reveal to find the tile company. Her tile is gray but it has that same quality of looking like beautiful, high-end tile. So you could ask in Kitchens since there's more tile experts there....See More

4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoWinchester Tile ( made in UK but many dealers in US) also has some gorgeous green glazes and they're also reasonable. Top is their Mint glaze. I think the second is their Sudbury. I looked at that one as I recall.
