Swinging doors, yes, french doors, no. It goes back to the type of hinge. A pivot/swinging door hinge would center the doors in the jamb, while a French door would be mounted with butt hinges that must be mounted at the edge of the jamb to function normally. Were you to mount the doors in the center of the jambs with butt hinges, the doors would not be able to open much past 90 degrees. The doorstop moldings would also look odd, because the doorstop mounts to the side of the jamb opposite the opening direction, in this hypothetical case, opposite sides, but meeting in a dislocated manner at the top. lindac - My mother would probably think like you because the home she and my father built had the 8 foot ceilings, and are not used to seeing curtains up that high. My grandmother, on the other hand, would have loved my higher look because her home was the stately southern mansion with 12 foot ceilings. As justgotabme said, it's a personal choice and works for me. dirtymartini - The blinds came first. We normally place wood blinds in our home for window coverings, but I have added curtains to several rooms for decorative purposes, mainly, but also to block out more light if needed. When my bedroom curtains are closed, they do not look great because they are meant to stay stationary. However, with this heat wave we have been having, they have remained closed for a straight week. They do have a thermal and regular lining, so having them closed has helped tremendously! If my curtains ever go on clearance, I'll buy another 6 panels to add to my existing panels for more fullness.

We built in 2021 and ended up with 5 multi-sliding doors from Euro-wall. We needed impact/hurricane rated doors. All of ours are 10 ft high to fit our 12 ft ceilings. Our largest is 6-panels and 18 ft wide. We also have 4-panels that are 12 ft wide and 2-panel that are 6 ft wide. Very happy with them, except one is missing weather stripping and we have been waiting forever for the window/door dealer to send their warranty crew out to make the repair.

We have lived in this house for about 2 years and I have struggled from day one with what to do about these windows. We live on about 50 acres so privacy isn’t a concern but I just like the ways curtains look. Should I use 2 panels on the windows? 4 panels? Leave the French doors uncovered? Roman shades? Have one super wide curtain rod to go all the way across? I’m spinning in circles! We tend to lean toward the farmhouse look. I need y’all’s amazing ideas!
