How far apart pendant lights on 7.5' island?

Island is 7.5' x 3.5'. Pendant lights are 12". I can't decide if I want 2 or 3 lights. Not sure about the placing. I appreciate any advice.

The general rule of thumb on an island less than 10’ is no more than two pendants. Locate the first pendant 22.5” from the edge and the second pendant 45” from the first one. This leaves 22.5” to the other end of the island spacing them perfectly! Send pics when done!

Thank you so much! I actually prefer 2 but wasn't sure how to space them.

Depends on how big the pendants are, and how high above the surface they are hung. On such a wide island, you might find that a row of pendants lights the center of the counter nicely but leaves the edges (where you'd work) a little dim.

You can find recommendations for anything from 24'' to 40'' from the island, to 68-72'' from the floor, but it really depends on a few things. How high is the island, how wide is the pendant, how wide is the island, how tall are you, and what do you use the island for? You need to keep the pendant out of the way of your tallest cook while s/he is using the island, particularly for tasks like rolling dough which involves leaning forward. You also need to consider the shape of the pendant and the size of the area it will light, to avoid dark spots. Do you need the pendants high enough to avoid obstructing your view into an adjacent room? Better to figure out your own requirements rather than go by someone's set numbers.

It all depends on how many pendants you want to have. for a 90" island you probably want 3-5 pendants. An odd number of pendants over an island works best. Let's say in your case the island is 90" and you want to have 3 pendants- 10" diameter each. Combined all diameter will be 30"... 90"-30"=60" 3 pendants+1 =4 (number of spaces in between the lights and ends of the island. Now take 60/4=15" that will give you the distance between each light. This is just an example: Layout How it will look in reality. You can go with 3-12" pendants and reduce space in between, or put smaller pendants over the overhang area if you have it and add a few recessed lights over the main area, or you can put 2 larger pendants but that would be more like mini chandeliers, over the entire area. There is a few ways this can be done depends on the look you want to have. Good luck

I'm not a fan of pendants dangling over a vanity area, it would be a last resort for me. Recessed, in combination with wall sconces works well. The vanity lighting need not be the only lighting in the bath, either. Recessed in the middle space of a bath, wall sconces at the roughly "head" level of 66 inches off the floor at the vanity can work well too. .........or even sconces above when it is the only option. The "rules" are lighting specs, space, style and personal need dependent. It is difficult to advise you minus a bath plan, or even a photo.

I haven’t heard that rule. I think it’s also dependent upon the size of the light fixtures. Different measurements are required if they’re minimal and dainty vs. substantial in size. Have you picked out your light fixtures?

Circa Lighting's website says at least 30" apart spacing. But my island is going to be 26" apart.

Re - the island - Your comments say it's 3'5" but the plans say it's 2'6".

The distance between the sink wall is measured at 3'7" but don't forget that the counters will have an overhang up to around 1" on either side so now you're down to 3'5" distance

What is the distance between the lower right corner of the island to the upper left corner of the counter across from it (keeping in mind counter overhangs). It looks like it could be a little tight.
