Ideas for Kitchen Update
Comments (8)Yes, I would also suggest to live with the kitchen as is for a few months at least. It takes time to get used to a new home and see what works and doesn’t work for the way you use your kitchen. I know it is hard to wait because you want to make it your own, but you will avoid making decisions that end up being a waste of money that way. The only small change that I would do today, is to change out the knobs on the cabinet doors only. I think the refrigerator pulls are very nice and they match well in style and finish to the island prep sink faucet. They also go nicely with the cup pulls on the drawers. I think I saw those exact two pull styles paired together somewhere in my kitchen picture files. Of course, it is hard to tell in photos, but the handles all look to be brushed nickel. But the round pulls don’t. They actually look really tarnished or something. They read more dull dingy grey to me, with the circle part even darker. It would be a simple DIY project. I think in a short time you are going to really dislike those wood columns that go down to the countertop flanking the corner cooktop. Maybe they open on the top portion? Idk, but the bottom blocks the flow of the countertops and give you no workspace next to the stove. That would drive me nuts. I would remove those immediately because no matter what I decided to eventually do to the kitchen those annoyances would have to go. The sides of the hood are probably not stained wood though. If possible, I would somehow try and reuse the plain wood side panel (not sure what to call that) on the outside of the column cut to fit the sides of the hood. But I wouldn’t fret about it if it can’t be covered right away. You can always add a matching stained skin piece down the road if the wood and layout stays. That is if you cannot keep the top section and just cut the bottom out. Edited because I just noticed the little hinges on top. Do they serve a purpose? Congrats on your beautiful new nome!...See MoreInspiration/Ideas for kitchen update, counters & backsplash
Comments (19)No updates to post yet! We do have someone coming this morning to measure and give us an idea of how many square feet (and how many slabs) we will need. So far, the front runner is the Silestone Copper Mist, but I'm still concerned it might be a little too cool, and it only comes in a polished finish. I've also looked at some soapstone look alikes--in a leathered finish. I really like the look of a dark counter with our cabinets and furnishings. We've visited 4 granite yards so far, and haven't found a light colored granite that wasn't too busy or "splotchy", spotted looking. I also prefer the looks of a non polished finish, but I've read several posts about upkeep being a nightmare. There are so many different finishes--honed, leathered, suede, etc. It's hard to know which one would be the right choice! I'll definitely update when we finish....See MoreIdeas for kitchen update - should we remove wall??
Comments (8)Which wall are you thinking of removing? It's kind of hard to imagine your floor plan from your photos. I can't see where an island would go. Just taking down walls and opening up the house may not get you a good result, and could get very pricey. If you draw up a floor plan we can see what you have. Let us know what areas of your house are working well for your family, and what the challenges are. Maybe a change in function of the rooms will help. If you have 2 living rooms, how are they used now, and what could be better? Looks like they are both TV rooms. What is in the rolling cart? You might find this book useful. Many libraries have it. https://www.amazon.ca/Not-Big-Solutions-Your-Home/dp/1561586137...See Moreideas to update large kitchen ceiling wood/florescent light box
Comments (33)So have to listen to husband ☹️He nixed the beautiful sea grass due to problem of grease from grill top will ruin natural materials. So if you’re still with me on this journey. Let’s recap: I have palm tree statement chandelier over kitchen table I love: see first photo. Dark bronze metal. I have 11’ tall ceilings! I have 9’ Island with grill in middle and monster wood light box above I will remove and put new led “can” lights above grill area and around perimeter of room. So at ends of island I think will look good with two pendants/chandeliers no more than 12” wide. I have the 3-tier Kira round bronze 3-light (60 watt each) dimmable I like. It is beach coastal with capiz shell and ripple glass. DOES it COORDINATE with palm chandelier okay? If so will go with those. Also found black metal orbs with white gloves (wish were clear seeded). Neutral enough. Does it coordinate and fit space? Lastly playing upon crystal LS on palm chandelier is the iron crystal one. May be too hard to clean and too fancy....See Morefelizlady
