Anyone grow climbing "Coral Dawn" & "Royal Gold"?
Comments (6)I have 'Coral Dawn' and 'Roberta Bondar'. 'Coral Dawn' has been hardy for me in zone 5, if not as vigorous as it would be in a warmer climate. 'Roberta Bondar' is so far the only good yellow repeat blooming climber for cold climates I know of. Maybe some of the newer Kordes yellows would suit. I am trying 'Zintronfalter' this year, but I think it is more of a bush than a climber. The 'New Dawn' descendants seem to me to need rather more water than is available in desert conditions and I suspect they are at their best in zones 6-8....See MoreAnyone grow Royal Wedding
Comments (5)I'm also a fan. It's one of the very few roses that I grow in multiples. RW was one of a small group of roses billed as "English Roses Born (Bred?) in America" that J&P introduced in the late 90s/very early 2000s. That was a period when a lot of us were (inexplicably, in my case) going ape over Austins, & J&P was attempting to jump on the band wagon. The first RWs sold by J&P were on Dr Huey; then for a number of years they sold it as a "New Generation" (own-root) rose. I prefer RW grafted; for me, it was very slow to build-up on its own roots, but worth the wait. This rose is a show-stopper when sharing a bed with blue salvia....See MoreDoes anyone grow Royal Sunset Cl.?
Comments (10)I made it over to Pt Defiance Rose garden today. Found 2 lovely big Royal Sunsets...and yes, was delighted to see that it is the rose I have admired for years! But Holy Tomatoes! The stems are a good 3" thick on those beauties! I wonder how long they have been growing there? It looks like those of us growing them on a 2 dimensional structure better prune off any canes that want to grow in the other directions! THese had about 5 of the massive trunks on each one and made a big full circle probably 10 feet tall and nearly that wide. I can't wait! I took pics I may be able to post tomorrow. THey are still in my camera now....See MoreDoes anyone here grow Lochroma royal queen purple?
Comments (8)Roselee I think the purple is called Purple Prince, the Queen is a bright pink. its just called lochroma" Queen" I have given cutting away on both of these as well as the ruby red, I purchaed them from Kratz Greenhouse online years ago. I have to cut them back every year, or they get too leggy. I don't remember if I gave you cuttings, but if you want some I can take cuttings the next time I go down, and bring them back.I have tried to root them, but could not root them in water, they need to be put in soil, and only the tips of the plants planted. I saw the video that someone put on this forum. Barbra...See Morelinnea56 (zone 5b Chicago)
