Need ideas for updating our exterior
Comments (11)Thanks for your ideas! Paint color - I like the idea of painting the triangle, I never thought of that! I think we should keep the trim and a (larger) post white, do you agree? Landscaping - We've lived here a couple years. The landscaping is pretty much what's in the picture. I have planted flowers each year right by the sidewalk heading up to the porch....See MoreNeed ideas to update exterior of the house
Comments (5)This house has a lot of potential. Find a new home for the trash cans. Replace the entry door and storm door with an updated version ( nothing fancy). The stormdoor should be full glass with the trim painted the same color as the door. Paint the house all one color. sage green with white trim, medium gray with white trim, etc . Then paint the door a nice contrasting color. I would try power washing the driveway rather than doing an expensive replacement. It can then be enhanced with large pots of flowers, etc. If the garage doors are functional paint them whatever color you paint the body of the house. Adding nice, larger lights by the entry door and near the garage doors would amp up the look. Invest in professional landscaping/ hardscaping. That alone will make this house sing....See MoreIdeas to update exterior of 1980 home?
Comments (25)The OP mentioned that her dream house was Craftsman. Hate to break it to you but the only element of that house that could come close to Craftsman is the long overhanging roof, a signature element of Frank Lloyd Wright, considered by some to be the father of the Craftsman architecture movement. Paint the protrusion the same color as the body of the house and it won't be as noticeable. Landscaping can make this house completely different. I happen to love the house but I understand if it's not to your taste so direct the eye to a great yard. Layering the landscaping is key. I doubt it's wise to grow vines on stucco but check with local garden experts in your area for ideas. If changing out the garage doors is a budget concern, the other renovation ideas you've mentioned are far more expensive than that so work on the yard. Google craftsman landscaping. This is a good book that can be inspirational to you. https://www.amazon.com/Outside-Bungalow-Americas-Crafts-Garden/dp/0670883557/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1HM8VQYF1Z322&keywords=outside+the+bungalow+home&qid=1653389040&s=books&sprefix=outside+the+bungalow+home%2Cstripbooks%2C153&sr=1-3 The pic below says it's xeriscape so that might work in your area as you mentioned sun and heat. It uses a lot of native plants so find out what's native to your area and go with it....See MoreIdeas for updating the exterior
Comments (10)IMO the large white garage door draws the eye there instead of to your lovely front facade. I would paint it darker and reconsider your front door color to something lighter. I'd also paint the blue planters black, center them on the upright areas and PLANT them! You do need to solve how to even the ground plane there. Planters are the most fun thing, allowing you to change the look with the seasons. Seriously, people over-do foundation plantings. The scale of your house doesn't need them and it looks great as is. I can't tell if there is a gravel bed on the right side but a simple ground cover could replace that. If you feel the need for adornment, jazz up the seating area with a vertical element near the downspout (even a tasteful sculptural piece), or get a fun outdoor rug. More is not always better....See MoreRelated Professionals
