Hello Porter - thanks for the comments. I'll try and post a better photo of the rug. Not married to it just needed something for a visual reference when trying to pull the room together. I had read a number of "rug" articles on Houzz. I had initially chosen a more rustic all over weave, but then was concerned about the chair legs, cleaning and cat factor :-( This size is definitely good and enough room for the chairs situation that you mentioned! The curtains are definitely long enough, actually too long. So I need to decide whether to raise the rods or hem the drapes. They are long by about 5 inches which isn't a ton. I want to replace the chandelier for sure and find some artwork that could work on the odd sized walls. One corner of the room is baffling me what to put there. It looks lonely. I have about 4 ft to work with there but not sure what to put. I am thinking to start I would anchor it with one of captains chairs and then some artwork above it. Thoughts??

If you are now retired, my comment would be to buy simple furnishings that don't require a lot of maintenance, no pillow-back sofas which in time will sag, a comfortable club chair with a matching ottoman with a side table and a good reading lamp. Be sure to visit the store and sit on what appeals to you to make sure it is comfortable. I like options with CB because they have very good salespeople who could guide you in your shopping. If you have a tv, but sure to mount it on a console so that you have the correct eye-level viewing. After your furniture is delivered, the fun part starts with hanging your collection! I think it's smart to wait on those cabinets which might grow on you after you've settled in. Good luck in your new home!
