How to paint ceiling after popcorn removal? (Very long)
Comments (10)Last year, I tackled the same project in a spare bedroom. Our house is approximately 25 years old to give you an idea of how long the popcorn had been up there. I didn't wet the ceiling at all--I dryscraped it with a piece of 2x4. I didn't get it down to a smooth ceiling, but got about 2/3 of the stuff off so that when I was finished, it looks like orange peel. Cleaned that mess up, vacuumed it well, and put a coat of Gardz on the entire ceiling. Let that dry, and then painted the ceiling with two coats of white paint. Don't know if this helps, but I still remember my sore arms and neck....See MoreCover popcorn ceiling; not remove?
Comments (41)And I thought we were the only ones that considered covering up popcorn instead of removing it. We thought about covering it with wood for a stained wood ceiling in the bathroom or sheetrock and a very light sprayed on texture. Instead my brother sprayed with warm water, waited 10 minutes and did it again. It was the cleanest popcorn removal I've ever seen. It was a just a 5x7 bathroom tho. I think covering it up would have been messier....See MorePopcorn ceilings removed, paint bubbling
Comments (4)If the bubbling then peeled to bare drywall, you simply did not have a good bond. Such spots are often over the mudded seam areas, where sanding dust was not removed, or a good drywall sealer was not properly applied. Where popcorn is removed dry, often a chauky residue is over the whole area. Use of a good drywall sealer is imperative. Cut out the bubbled areas, patch with a couple coats of drywall compound, sand and prime. Then finish coat with a quality paint suitable for baths with showers. Traditionally, higher sheen paints are used in showers because of their higher resistance to humidity....See MoreSo How Did Your Popcorn Ceiling Removal Go?
Comments (2)I did my entire upstairs and downstairs by myself, 2 bedroom townhouse. I bought an oversized metal spatula thing i think used for wall paper, big water sprayer and 3 step ladder, lots of plastic tarps. Easy, just lots of work. I am not a wimp tho....See Morechiflipper
