Need rug advice - playroom/kid friendly area rugs
Comments (2)look at some of the Smartstrand cpts from Mohawk. They are very soft and stain resistant but come in a frieze style so they will look good. Most kid proof type carpets you will find are made from olefins which are scratchy. The softest nylon is Tactesse but its not totally stain proof. you may have to get a carpet remnant then just have it bound. I doubt any area rugs you will find are made from these fibers....See MoreArea Rugs - Will Viscose rug last?
Comments (20)Remember, too, that with a wool rug, the tighter the weave, the better the wear. I had a wool oriental in my dining room for 17 years that was a low quality, loose weave. After 17 years, it was worn & haggard. But it served its purpose very well -- a dark, patterned rug that didn't show stains and held up to years of growing boys & their friends playing games in the dining room. (Also three cats inflicting their share of damage.) I bought it knowing it wasn't quality, expecting to replace it after the family years. My "good" oriental with a really tight weave, on the other hand, looks as good as it did when I bought it in 1988. It has spent its life in rooms that weren't heavily used, but it still has had a fair amount of traffic on it, plus strong sunlight, the occasional spill, and more than a few hairballs. I haven't babied it, that's for sure....See MoreArea rug from Rugs Direct
Comments (2)I have bought every rug in my home from Rugs Direct except one and we have all hardwood, no carpet at all, so that is a lot of rugs! I have been totally thrilled with *almost every rug and they have EXCEPTIONAL customer service. If you call to order, ask for Scott Garthwaite and tell him that Laura recommended him. :) I am lucky because I live less than an hour from their Winchester, VA showroom and the rugs that have not worked for me I have been able to return myself and so have avoided paying return shipping. However, their policy is a 30 day return, no questions asked so this does give you time to try the rug out in your room and then return it if the total look it is not what you had hoped for. Good Luck, I hope it works out for you!...See MoreArea Rug(s) for Entryway that leads to Multiple Rooms
Comments (5)@Lil S I was going to use a runner initially. But, I thought it shouldn't block the stairs or entrance to the kitchen. I guess I was thinking too much. I've never had a long hallway before, so I was stumped! I appreciate the feedback. @Karen Rose: Apparently, I was thinking way too much about this and should have went with my first gut. Ugh. Thank you so much! @groveraxle You are awesome for proving a link. I was looking on Wayfair and Overstock and couldn't find a runner longer than 13 feet. Since the 22 foot runners are only 2' 3" and wouldn't cover the opening of the front door. I think a indoor/outdoor rug and then a 16" would work, Yay...See MoreKarenS
