So hard to come up with a pic of CT that represents it well...but this one comes close...some industry and commerce, some fields, some hills, lots of trees and rocks and some water...

Comments (20)After the Revolutionary War (War of Rebellion), a new country, the United States of America, was formed during the 1780s. Up to this war, the colonial monetary system was a Hodge podge system of bartering and the English Pound. Tobacco and nails were commonly used as money. (Maybe you've heard of a 6 penny or 10 penny nail?) After the Revolutionary War. the federal monetary system took some time to fully establish itself. Did you know that at one time individual states issued money? Tennessee was one of those as found on this promissory note where my g-g-grandfather promised to pay in 'the current money of Tennessee'. The note reads: "By the 25th of December next I promise to pay John Hord(ner)? the sum of Eight Dollars inthe current money of the State of Tennessee for value received of him this 8th of May 1827." Notice that the old style of writing the double-s appears in the word Tennessee. The first s is highly elongated above and below the base line. It has the same height and descender as the letter f and is commonly confused by transcribers. The differences are: The f's upper and lower loops are both on the right side of the vertical staff; For the s, the upper loop is the same but the lower loop is on the left side of the staff, like an elongated numeral 8. Sometime during the 1830s, this style of writing ss changed to the present modern form....See MoreI'll show you mine/you show me yours - Sa 8/24/24

7 years agoThe last time I was in CT was 30 years ago when we stopped in Groton and Mystic on our way home from Nova Scotia.
So instead here are the entries from the 3rd round of bread baking competition. My DDIL wants to learn how to make bread and suggested we make the same recipe and then get together to sample. Our loaves usually taste the same but DH has mastered the art of a good crust. The two that are sliced were both Emeril recipes.

7 years agoI had a great time watching my Jimsonweed last night. I don’t know if it’s the same as moonflower. Lots of dive bombing going on.
7 years agoSchoolhouse, I have more of the seeds, Lisa gave me. I planted about 10 or so, and got two plants.
Worked for me.
Seeded this spring. The first picture is of the whole plant, from the above pictures, the second picture I put my yard shoe with it, for size
Been looking for a before picture.. but don't seem to have one.
I can tell you this, if you cut the stem with the spent flower off the next afternoon (after blooming) it won't make a seed pod, and it will increase the flower production.
