What a loss to literature.

Beloved was one of the most beautifully written, and devastating, books I've ever read. Her prose was like poetry. RIP.

I read a lot but my reading preferences have little in common with members of the literati. I don't read junky or trashy stuff but I also don't read what most would consider to be literature. I know she was a very respected and impactful writer but more than a bit outside of my normal reading neighborhood.

I agree, Bookwoman, that Beloved is beautifully written and also devastating. I had to read 2-3 pages before I got into the gist of the story, then it flowed nicely after that. The Bluest Eye is another important novel although very sad.

I just read through her list of books written and realized I haven't read all. Maybe later this year I can do that. I haven't been reading nearly as much, after a lifelong habit of reading. One of my favorite places to read has always been on a chaise outside and I just haven't found time to indulge. Maybe soon.
