To paint vintage bead board - or not.

Half of my 1913 farmhouse features stained beadboard walls.

The other half is circa 1998, which we're "vintage-ing up" by adding a chair railing of painted beadboard.

In order to meld the two decades together, I am considering the benefits of painting the stained walls, but a small voice keeps telling me how horrible it would be to cover up the history of the home.

Biggest cause for question: I want to install rich wood floors (very specific in what flooring I want) BUT I'm concerned with how much wood that will mean when placed adjacent to the stained walls.

Advice? Thoughts?
