how does bead board hold up in bathroom?
Comments (3)heidia, while the current bath we just did has only had the beadboard (wider version) for just over a year now, I have had it in previous baths. The bathroom I grew up in had it. There is a difference in the quality of what you put up. If you put up the pine boards and not the thin laminate type stuff, it will last a lot longer. Also, give it some good coats of paint to seal out the water. It will last a very, very long time. Probably longer than the grout would if you put in tile. We also bounced back and forth between tile and wood for this bath. For the look we wanted it was a LOT of tile (and more costly a lot of trim tile). Good luck, Kalindi...See MoreBead Board all around?
Comments (30)Oh wow, thanks for all the posts!!! I forgot about my question on this forum...I'm on the appliance forum, and the kitchen one, and the flooring one. HA! Posting all over as I got lots of questions I need answered. Thank you for the pictures and encouragement. My walls in two bedrooms are not in good condition and I thought this would be an easy way to fix. I LOVE the look and it will be great for this 1952 lake cottage. Interesting though, I don't know that I have seen the bead board running in a horizontal fashion before. I like that, too! For those of you asking about bead board sheets versus individual boards, I posted a question about that earlier. There were many different posts that were interesting concerning pros and cons. Would be worth reading. Anyway, thanks to all.....and I would love to see even more pics of bead board. I heart it!!!...See Morehole in bead board
Comments (8)Some polyurethane caulk might work, but you would likely have to flatten or shape it after it hardened. You could turn tapered plugs, or make a 'Dutchman' type repair by cutting a recess around the hole and gluing in a thin layer of wood. If you are lucky you might be able to purchase some cross grain plugs larger than the holes and then drill the holes to match the plugs, glue them in, then shape them as required. Under a coat of paint even long grain plugs (think dowel pieces) might work, but they would be much harder to shape since you would be cross cutting them (and they might pop out). Even a blob of Minwax high Performance Wood Filler might work, but you would need to shape it (not that hard to do with wood chisels when it has started to cure but is not fully hardened). You might pop the plug out if you let it harden completely and then try to chisel it to match....See MoreBead or No Bead... AGAIN.
Comments (40)I like the idea of beaded for the island only and simple no bead for the rest of the cabinets. With the yellow and white and all the beautiful details you are doing it is going to be fantastic and I can not wait to see the finished kitchen. Are your cabinet doors like your friends/neighbors or like katieobs? Looking at your kitchen design, I think you have a nice design with the stacked glass cabinets, I don't think you need the bead detail. But it is your kitchen and if you love bead then do it. When I did our kitchen I ordered the cabinets, had nightmares that I had made a bad decision, called and changed the order to a completely different door the next day. I know what you are going through it is a huge decision. But once you do decide you will be able to relax and move on to the next task. Oh my am I glad my kitchen is done....See Morechiflipper
