Hi Averil, I have this plant and grow it in a hanging pot with rocky substrate in a bright spot. A little calcium or limestone may help, too. Morning or late afternoon direct sun only. I would snag those seeds quickly! Try starting seeds in a pumice-type or very small gravel/sand mix with little to no soil. Keep your humidity high, like maybe in a humidity tent, but watch out for fungus. I have heard you can mist with weak chamomile tea for fungus problems. Good luck and take pics!

Hi Karen I use lots of fertilizer on mines..I use Foliage Pro and Neptunes Harvest and it has been cut back twice..How funny is that the same pot? That is just weird. Great minds think a like) It's hard to explain my 100 year old one..I let it dry out too much the past week and and its leaves and flowers dried off. Ugh. Did not know the sun was that hot in a south window in December. I always underestimate the suns strength and get lazy about watering at times..I will take a pic once it's up in bloom again which should not take too long. I can share a cutting or two with you on this one too. Yes, I agree, spring sounds like a good idea. Just remind me about that time and I will send them when you do. You’ve got Cleistocactus winteri aka golden rat tail cactus. Monkey tail/Cleistocactus winteri subs. colademononis is a subspecies of your cactus. Both are super easy to propagate and sounds like you already know what to do;). You can slice anywhere on the cactus with a clean sharp knife. Let those cuts callus and away from moisture. Any cutting without roots no water or harsh sun till those roots form. Which can take a month+. Keep in mind wherever you cut that area will always look like you’ve cut it. It will grow pups around the cut, kinda like arms. Depending on what you want to do you can turn your cactus into a few four inch cuttings and root those. I wouldn’t cut any pieces smaller than four inches because if too small they may just shrivel up on you. I have a monkey tail cutting that tbh I don’t think is even four inches, but has rooted, and has a pup. Goodluck:) My monkey tail is in bloom now. You can see the difference in color between your cactus and mine. The flower is more reddish orange on monkey tail.
