Needing some input on newly stained deck.
Comments (5)That is a nice Project Man. Here is how I do it. A 14'' buffer ya know a floor machine with a scrub pad. The pads come in different levals for what your doing the green should do it. An olalic acid wash. I buy the pure form in 50lb bags but the woodrich guys sell a much milder product that I can remomend. Mix it up in a 5 gal bucket put it on with a big nap roller on a pole. Run the floor machine over your deck keep it wet. Garden hose wash be sure and remove all the brightner. Let it dry,put on the finish. Ghesss I cant belive I am doing this again.... But you have a really nice deck going on most excelent attention to detail. Outdoor finish. With woodrich and twp its a build coat product. The first coat is not going to last all that long, the wood will have to get used to its new home. I have noticed woodrich stuff is a little shine building coats but it sets up about the same as twp. Spending time and doing work is what it takes to get a long lasting finish using either one. The more coats the longer it takes to set up. Use the sprit of a sound mind, work with the finish on test material. Really its not all that hard it just takes some thought while your doing it. I do not recomend any other outdoor finish far a building coats go. The pinofin/supperdeck,cabots ect are a total different base and dont even think about the one coat forever guys that stuff is a complete scam. I have a masenramduba deck out back of Butler Manor put in right after 9 11. I have used the above way twice it looks really goood right now, in fact I am very pleased with the red/brown color. With a deck that size the cost of the floor machine imo is well worth it. Any biger size buffer is hard to cotrol on a uneven surface like deck boards but the 14'' works like a dream. I am not going to respond to any posters claiming what I do cant be done,or something else works soooooo much better,or I Never have to redo my finish,or the one time forever stuff is just that. This is what I have done,it works for me and has for 15 years. John Mon...See MoreCreative input needed
Comments (3)Thank you for the quick responses! DH and I are empty nesters, have 2 children, girl and boy, with growing and expanding families of their own. We get together often and enjoy having friends over too. DD and DIL like to cook too, so the space is frequently shared. DH helps out alot, too. The girls and I all like to can and try different things, the kitchen is our playground! I have lots of cookware, gadgets and small appliances that are currently stored out in the back room (west open area). The current kitchen is a one-butt PITA! The proposed island is 4'x6', the reason I didn't extend cabinets down the east wall is because that is the main entry from the LR, and I thought it would be good to have some open area. The east wall cabinets are going to be for beverages, primarily coffee and wine. The new door is partly because for years I've felt like a caged animal in the current kitchen, I like to be able to move about, and get out of the way easily! I would like to look into site-built cabinets, like they used to be built. We know a cabinet maker, but have yet to approach him about this. We have close to 20G so far, and are still adding about 1G per month. I've tried many different layouts, but I'm really needing some objective viewpoints. I hope this answers the questions, and TIA!...See MoreOkay I need all creative help please!
Comments (7)we wall-papered over the exisitng stuff in this tiny trailer we had eons ago...painted the wood panels we could. the carpeting is a pita to replace. they redid a trailer on christopher lowell years ago, and he had to have it done by a pro, because of it going up the "walls" and the stairs. an alternative might be to remove and replace with some sort of vinyl tiles?(easier to keep clean imho, but then?? pulling out in weird places) they can be warmed and sort of cut/bent into small spaces......See MoreNew to deck mounted tub faucets - please offer input
Comments (0)Hi, We are going to be having a freestanding tub in our master bath. It is a modern home that we are in the process of completing. Never had a tub before so want some input on the models we are considering. There is a niche at 36" right next to the tub so tried to make sure that the tub faucets stay below that. The niche is about 34" wide in the middle of the tub which is 64" wide and 21" high. The models suggested were (ranging from $999 - $3500: https://www.lacava.com/product/1390 https://www.us.kohler.com/us/catalog/productDetails.jsp?productId=1264622 https://www.grohe.us/Floor-Mounted-Tub-Fillers/Single-Handle-Freestanding-Tub-Faucet-with-175-GPM-Hand-Shower/GROHE-CHROME-32754002 https://www.dxv.com/product/square-water-saving-floor-mount-bathtub-faucet https://www.grohe.us/Floor-Mounted-Tub-Fillers/Single-Handle-Freestanding-Tub-Faucet-with-175-GPM-Hand-Shower/GROHE-CHROME-23792001 These don't swivel (the sales guys said that is a good thing so we don't flood the bathroom floor by mistake. Some range in height like the Grohe Allure (31-1/2 in. – 34-5/8 in.) which I presume at the time of installation can be fixed at a certain height. The bathroom fixtures are Hansgrohe Metris S and Grohe Rain shower, but we skipped on the Hansgrohe models because they were a tad taller 38"-39" or 40" (should we consider them too? they range from $915-$2800): https://www.hansgrohe-usa.com/articledetail-metris-freestanding-tub-filler-trim-with-1-75-gpm-handshower-31432001 https://www.hansgrohe-usa.com/articledetail-metropol-freestanding-tub-filler-trim-with-lever-handle-and-1-75-gpm-handshower-32532001 https://www.hansgrohe-usa.com/articledetail-metropol-freestanding-tub-filler-trim-with-loop-handle-and-1-75-gpm-handshower-74532001 https://www.hansgrohe-usa.com/articledetail-metropol-classic-freestanding-tub-filler-trim-with-1-75-gpm-handshower-31445001 https://www.hansgrohe-usa.com/articledetail-talis-s-freestanding-tub-filler-trim-with-1-75-gpm-handshower-72413001 https://www.hansgrohe-usa.com/articledetail-puravida-freestanding-tub-filler-trim-with-1-75-gpm-handshower-15477001 Since we are new to this - I don't even know what I should look out for (hose length, spout reach, height of faucet, aerator etc.) or what are the things I don't need to stress too much about. There is a range in the prices so am I getting what I paid for features wise that I should be aware of? Your input will help me. Thanks...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
