HELP! Old Wood Trim.. to paint or not to paint.
Comments (7)I have been fighting a loosing battle with hubby about wanting to paint the 1970s oak paneling but I would keep that historical trim natural. There are wood enhancing treatments if it is in bad shape. I would be grabbing the first can of white paint I could to get rid of that yellow green. Soft sage or gray green is traditional and beautiful with that Craftsman era wood work. Think subtle greyed or muted shades from William Morris designs. Soft butter cream or ivory would let the wood and your furnishings be the star. Teals and cool color could add a nice contrast to the warm woods but keep your whites on the warm side. Enjoy the wood and plan your color schemes around it....See MoreKitchen paint and Trim paint help!

Comments (22)zach, the advice I gave doesn't have to be expensive. a lot of what I suggested is perfectly doable for young, able-bodied people. I know because I've done it on my own home. If all you want is a trim color to go w/soot, pick something like Simply White or Behr Swiss Coffee. (I prefer Behr paint to BM, believe or not). Why not get some samples and do a portion of the house so you get an idea how it looks? I only mentioned the hedge so you could actually see the front of your house and the colors you're painting. Around your front door area I would sand that wood, stain it a cedar color, seal it, and have the natural wood color. it will look a lot better than doing a dark color around that recessed door. I also mentioned doing the Romabio masonry, and not the limewash. if you like the mcm look, do a full coverage and not a limewash....See MoreShadyWillowFarm
