Have Serissa Bonsai and all the leaves have gone help!!
Comments (21)The two worst plants any beginner can start with are serissa and fukien tea, the problem is that both of these are 'pleasing' to the eye and look nice to start with. Both can be and usually are a royal pain in the butt to work with. When in the states I grew mine in a greenhouse setting (along with a few other tropicals) but never a FT. What you should do is Google care of them, there is a wealth of info on the web. If you go to the website of Jerry Mislick he has a ton of information on care of most tropicals and he grows them indoors way up north. To handle them indoors you will need at least flourecent lighting 5 or 6" above the plants. With just a few one standard double tube fixture should be enough to work. Humidity trays help but with dry central heating it's more of a placebo for you in the winter. You should buy the highest wattage tubes you can find and 'full spectrum' is best. They should have the lights on 12 to 14 hours a day. The plants will get 'leggy' but you just prune that back in the spring. As a point of information: I did a test of serissa vs. soil mixes a number of years ago under controlled conditions. The winning medium was pure medium Perlite...which looks really crappy when used in a Bonsai pot. Bob...See Moreworm tracks on my eggplant leaves?

Comments (2)Picture would be good is it rooted or not? Some cuttings are very hard to root. If it is not rooted it should have bottom heat and i would put it in pearl lite you don't want it wet at all I usally put them in soda bottles clear so you can see whats going on. They sell mats that are made for this or heating pad but you need the heat below not too hot or you will fry the roots as they come. If it does have rot cut till you get the fresh wood no rot and try what I say and see if this helps you. Hard to root cuttings if they want to rot I graft them you only need a 3-5 inched to graft. Hope this helps also while your cutting the bad off look at it to make sure theres not something in there causeing this...See MoreAll leaves gone, blooming inflos stay?
Comments (2)Felicia, sounds like you got a great Christmas gift last year! Sorry about the pests! When you give them supplemental lighting indoors, the bugs thrive. I wouldn't cut anything off just yet. It's not unusual for them to bloom even after their leaves fall off. Hopefully removing the leaves and the lights will decrease your pest population, but take it outside and spray it down with neem once more before bringing it back in. The bugs also like dry warm conditions. Misting a couple times a day annoys them. They also don't like circulating air, so a fan will help, too. I'm in zone 8b and when we have a stretch of warm days--70's or 80's--I take a bunch of my plumerias outside and leave them until the next cold snap so the hot sun and predatory insects help get rid of the pests. Divine is a well-known water hog, so maybe give her a generous splash of water. Watering during winter is a problem for newly-rooted plumeria, and those that have shut down on their own and are sitting in wet cold soil for long periods, but I water many of mine during winter and they do fine. You just have to keep an eye on each individual plant and see how it's doing. Good luck!...See Morenaturegirl_2007 5B SW Michigan
