Please help me with my family room layout.
Comments (3)you can link to your photobucket album by copying the link into the space below your message where it says: optional URL link. in the second line space, just make up a name for it and type it there. something like Margaritalady's family room. Or you can click on the photos you want to post (one at a time) in the html box (it will say, "copied" and then paste them into the body of the message here. Make sure they are not too big. The html will post as text and you can only see if your pics are going to appear by using the preview message button. You should then see all your photos as they will appear. Let us know if this isn't clear....See MoreHelp with my family room layout.
Comments (4)Wow, that's a tough room, width wise! I like the original arrangement better, with the tv on the shelves, although I think I'd remove the loveseat and put in another chair. I think that would really open up the space and give you more arrangement options. As it is, I'd try it without the coffee table, as that makes it much more crowded looking. You could do end tables where you need them most; maybe one a set of nesting tables, which can be pulled out when you actually need them for guests. If you use the coffee table for feet, then I might look for some smaller round or round edge square ottomans/tables that won't take up as much room visually or physically and can double as tables when needed. I would probably paint out the wainscoting the same color as the upper wall. I think it adds to the visual clutter. It also adds another of very many small square/rectangular elements...the trim in the wainscotting, the shelves (which I would de-clutter by paring down what is displayed and probably also paint them the same color as the wall), and now the rug. I'd look for a quieter rug that is not geometric to bring some softer, cozier elements in (thus the rounder ottomans/tables, too). Maybe more like these:or these: I'm not usually a drapery fan (at least for my own home) but I think if you hung draperies around your windows, generous with the width and height and amount of fabric, it would really cozy up that wall and soften two more rectangles. There are some great window covering experts here who might make some recommendations as how to do it in the best way. And no to dark brown walls. I think in that space I'd want to bring in more light, in paint, draperies and a rug. Your furniture is already dark, as is all the wood. I'd look at pictures online and find rooms with colors that make you feel good while lightening up the space, whether a warm, light gray, a tan or taupe, or even a soft, light gold color, like the one in the room above with the yellow ottomans and brown couch....See MoreAdvice needed and appreciated for Family Room layout and design
Comments (20)Morning! No, I wouldn't leave the yellow. You might want to post a pix looking into the kitchen since they share the same paint color. Go with a taupy tone... As for the drapes, I am ALWAYS pushing these but you cannot beat them for an expensive look (linen) lengths and price. I've used them for umpteen years in several homes and have the beige. The beige is a shade that also works with grayish beiges....I have that tone now. I never would use the tiebacks included....awful look. They also send iron on fusing so you can hem them to your length. They're probably the only drapes that come in extra long lengths (118") that won't break the bank or demand custom. Cut the tabs off, turn over the material, hem and use clip rings. Tabs are not a great look IMHO. I notice that online they don't have the beige ones at the 118" length but do the gray. I'm not sure why since I've bought them before. You might check into that. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20111974/ Witih the drapes right next to the stone pattern, I'd prob avoid any patterns....just too much going on. Save pattern for a rug and pillows....See MoreNeed help with furniture selection and family room layout
Comments (3)I like you leather, it works with the stone fireplace; possibly stain the mantle a dark color to coordinate with the leather and the curtains. You could possibly add a pair of lounge chairs, one in corner by TV and one opposite it on the corner of the sofa....this will allow more seating and also allow the Hubs chair to stay in place for TV viewing. Here are three rooms that might inspire you.....the room below has some interesting elements to accentuate the height; it also has a nice furniture arrangement; if you could find another leather chair to match the one you have then add a fun color chair in the corner it would look pretty stylin'....and there are a lot of accessories in this room you could apply to your room beside the art....painted ceiling, hanging chandelier, large entertainment center that helps to balance out the large wall. This is a great Pit area with a lot of seating and a simple design plan that really looks welcoming. Lots of colorful pillows and a mirror go a long way for style in this room Beautiful use of color to soften up the leather pieces in the room and simply done with curtains and again pillows and white paint for contrast and architectural style.....the small area rug really adds some punch to the room for a nominal price.....this would involve investing in a love seat that matches or coordinates with the leather....color match or contrast would work well....See MoreJ J
