Alcohol at church event ?
Comments (35)It really is a complicated issue! Jesus certainly did turn water into wine and Timothy is told to take a little wine for his stomach but drunkenness is clearly labeled a sin. We all know the devastating effects of alcoholism which effects so many people. Personally, I think taking the higher road, and setting an example and also, not being a hindrance is the better way to do things. It's not because I'm a traditionalist but because I have an alcoholic in my life. I have seen and experienced the results of my having a glass of wine in front of them. But for that person, it is interpreted as "Well, if they're going to have a drink, so will I!" and of course, it doesn't stop with one or two drinks. Perhaps it is easy to say, why should their problems hinder me? But as Christians we are to walk in love at all times, do unto others, etc. and if I can prevent a Christian who is having a difficult time managing, not slip further, than I have a responsibility to do so. And, I think church activities should be a safe haven for all those who need to live a clean life....See MorePA inspectors vs. church bake sales
Comments (18)If I was high risk (i.e. pregnant, toddler, diabetic, etc) I would pass on the home made goodies and either donate money or find something store bought that is probably there. But we all have to be responsible for what we put in our own bodies or that of our children or pets. Just because it is in a restaurant doesn't mean it is clean,. When I was a kid there was a grist mill in our community. They were struggling but they had a quality product. The new health inspector was so proud to site them when he found 'ingredients' spelled wrong on the bag. The actual word 'ingredients' He made them issue a recall on the product. What the......? They went bankrupt every employee, was laid off. (I think there were 7) Now what in the world would that have hurt anyone? I wonder what effect this will have on the food network's call for people to have bake sales for hungry children. I have seen time after time where stupid laws prevented the less fortunate to benefit from something that would otherwise be discarded. In no way do I have any conspiracy theory about the government, but I wonder how many of these laws are really meant to protect the average citizen and how many were generated by lobbyists lining the pockets of those in the position to make laws. Just like those peanut processing facilities in Georgia and Texas. Trust me they were unsanitary a long time before it was brought to light. I would bet my now pathetic 401K on it that people were paid to look the other way. Many laws say this effects businesses with more than so many employees or only if you have this sale more than so many times a year or if you a dollar volume of so much. Bake sales, car washes, block parties, school carnivals, church bake sales, they all help the community and are a way to bond with your neighbors. We used to adopt a resident at a local nursing facility and all year do special things for him. We would cook for them and bring treats that they longed for (as long as it met dietary requirements) no more, governemnt says no....See MoreSuggestion for Taking a Meal

Comments (46)TACO BAR!!!!! Seriously easy and always a hit since you can customize. Brown some ground beef add some jarred salsa (I like pace) and some taco seasoning. Then it's as simple as laying out the toppings and baking the shells or heating the tortillas. Or you can do half beef and half shredded chicken with a little chili powder or cumin so there's more choices. Toppings are classics : cheese...lots of cheese, tomatoes, diced red onion, salsa, sour cream, jarred taco sauce or nacho cheese sauce if you feel fancy, maybe guacamole..that's it. Almost everything can be done in advance. Make some Spanish or Mexican rice to go with it. For dessert for a big group....take it from me...the beloved spinster aunt of 15 nieces and nephews the only way to make a huge group happy (kids and adults) is a ice cream sundae bar. Get 2 or 3 different types of ice cream and some toppings. Favorites at my house are crushed up oreos and chips ahoy, mms, bananas, butterscotch chips, nuts, strawberries , hot fudge and caramel sauce and cool whip...that's right people cool whip...no shame in liking the fake stuff. I usually do 10 or 15 topping choices but for your situation I wouldn't go to the expense. Just a few classics will do. Hope this inspires!...See Moresushipup1
