Kitchen Backsplash Tile Stain Above Range
Comments (5)A backsplash is always going to get dirty. There is no way around that. You'll have to occasionally clean it. And unless it is a really forgiving non-porous surface (glass, stainless steel, some types of well-sealed granite), it'll take some work. Any type of grout is going to be painful to clean no matter what. They make less-porous grout (e.g. epoxy based grout, and polyurethane grout), but even those aren't necessarily a panacea. You could try something like Viper Venom Grout Cleaner. It'll cut through the dirt quite effectively. But it's some pretty aggressive chemical. Make sure you use appropriate personal protective equipment. And absolutely make sure you test it on another tile before. It definitely has the potential of damaging tile or some natural stones. When you are done, seal the surface. But don't expect miracles. Sealing isn't going to prevent discoloration. It'll simply make it easier to clean in the future, as it seals the pores and makes it less likely for grime to get into the tile/stone. Or you could live with the discoloration and consider it a side-effect of picking a natural stone in your kitchen....See MoreLooking for advice on kitchen backsplash tile
Comments (4)IMO yes it's going to be too white. Not to mention, you have to get the white backsplash just right to look good with both the counter and the cabinets. My suggestion would be to incorporate some color -- you can go soft or bold, whichever you prefer, your countertop is pretty subdued. If you're afraid of color, at least consider a grey splash that is the same tone as the grey in the countertop; here again, you can go soft and light or something more saturated or deeper in color. This is one of my favorite white kitchen photos. The soft green adds interest, and notice how it plays beautifully against both the white cabinets and a countertop that is similar to yours. If you're not partial to green, there are soft aquas or greys that would look splendid, too. Comments (14)@Sumod You're welcome! Personally, I wouldn't choose semi-gloss for walls. In prior homes, I've had satin or eggshell and found them more scuff-resistant and easier to clean than flat, without too much shine/glare. This is the base we used (recommended by our builder), and I would steer you away from it - the review on this page says it all https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/cashmere-interior-acrylic-latex-flat-enamel-pl-9520095 Sheens are hard and such a personal preference... just don't chose flat through-out your house, it's my only regret!...See MoreKitchen Backsplash Tile
