Trees that have been at the nursery since last year
Comments (10)aw come on ... its alive.. WHAT MORE DO YOU EXPECT FROM A TREE YOU JUST PLANTED ... $40 bucks is about right .... in a year or two.. you will be limbing it up.. and get rid of every single one of those branches.. who cares what they look like now .. they have leaves.. they are feeding the plant ... it is growing roots .... pshaw ... now.. that tree in a 5 gal pot.. did you take the time to unwind or cut heavily circling roots... i dont recall if mentioned above ... if not.. dig it back up in late fall and plant it the right way ... and in the right spot subject to what is next ... now.. i dont like elms... and i ask the rest of you.. that close to the house .. is that a good place for THAT elm .... the carp elms in my 'hood' are all the Chinese elms that shed branches when the neighbors sneeze .... SHOULD SHE MOVE IT AWAY FROM THE HOUSE FOR THAT REASON??? i suspect.. that most of us gardeners.. have paid more.. for a better bargain.. for stock looking worse than that.. and with our help.. i suspect you are at a 95% success rate with most trees ... JUST DONT DROWN IT OR FERT IT ... on some level .. ignore the nattering nay-bobs ... as helpful as they usually are ... i think they are just jealous here .. lol ... could it be better .. yes was it a bargain .. yes ... was it a waste of money .. not really if you like it ... will it live and make you happy.. probably ... quit worrying about it ... if nothing else.. its a $40 lesson ... been there.. done that ... how about a $100 hosta that died a week later.. talk about regrets .... ken...See MoreKT ages
Comments (97)I'm 80. Have wrinkles and graying hair and arthritis here and there, but the real me inside is still about seventeen. I see there are a couple of other 80's here and I bow to Senior Gal at 88. You all are such a fun group. Glad to be among you. Comments (44)Well, the mystery is over. Bulldog, you hit the nail on the head. I found out who the owner of the turkeys is, it's my neighbor across the road and kitty corner to me. I should have immediately suspected it was him since he lets his dogs runs free indiscriminately. One of his dogs is constantly in my yard, and hangs out in the middle of the road stopping what little traffic we get, several times a week. It's a wonder it hasn't been killed yet. Anyway, the way I found out was they showed up at my house yesterday and had completely surrounded my car. One was tapping its beak on my front door making all 3 of my cats go berserk. My next door neighbor was outside and I said to him can you take care of them with your bow and arrow. They're going to scratch the hell out of my car. He said they're so and so's turkeys, he got them a month ago. I said why is he letting them loose like this? This is ridiculous. I have no doubt that the turkey neighbor knows I'm unhappy about these turkeys, but knowing him he's not going to care one single bit. I can't believe people just let their animals run loose onto other people's property and not think twice about it. Dh joked they're violating the leash law. But it won't be funny when we have a scratched up car. Are livestock allowed to roam free? Aren't there laws for this kind of situation?...See MoreHello Everyone, It's Been Some Time
Comments (50)I worry about the situation for those living and gardening in Europe, with winter coming on and an iffy fuel situation for heating. Fingers crossed for a mild winter this year! bart, I'm so glad to see you posting as I remember that you had some health challenges when I was last here. I wish you all the best in every way. I know your rose garden is very challenging, and I hope you remember to take care of yourself first and foremost. I've learned that gardens can be very ephemeral, but one can always try again when things don't work out. Sheila, I'm so sorry that your irrigation system was giving you fits. They can be a challenge but are so necessary in the west. I'm glad that your roses are doing well in spite of this and everything else. The old roses are tough, in addition to being so beautiful...See MoreElmer J Fudd
