Oh I know the wisteria thing far too well! One spring a sprig showed up on our fence row. My mom (she and dad were living in their camper in our yard through the winter months) was enchanted with this lovely flower right outside her window. We gave in to her begging not to rip it out of the ground. And the result several years later was that the "little sprig" spread one direction 100 feet (and was climbing all over our neighbors old, unused barn). And it spread at least 100 feet down the fence row in the opposite direction. And sprigs were showing up like 150 feet on the opposite side of our house from where it had begun. We were SO glad to move away from the problem. I laid awake one night trying to figure out how the heck we could possibly ever beat it! Since we sold unexpectedly in the winter time (the house hadn't even been for sale), didn't even think about the wisteria plant. Hey, the new owner had earth moving equipment...so he likely could handle the project of erradication. And when we moved into our new house we discovered the owner had, according to she who as evidenced by the rest of the yard really knew nothing about gardening, planted a non-invasive variety of wisteria. We weren't about to take her word for that one! Our first act as home owners was ripping the wisteria out of the ground and making sure every sprig went into the trash to be picked up and hauled away from the curb. dell

Thank you everyone! :) Jim, honestly I do not know if it is a rebloomer, but now you've got me thinking..usually I prune it hard after it flowers, maybe this year I'll let it go awhile longer and see if it does rebloom. I can't wait till my NBJ's bloom. Got any pix of yours in bloom? Anyone know if they will bloom 1st year from seed? Karyn, and Jim..have you guys tried the Knockout roses? They are the easiest rose to grow in my opinion. They bloom from spring till the first killing frost here. DH's uncle couldn't believe I still had roses blooming at the end of November last year, he was absolutely amazed...was the good ol KO's! I know the KO's are all the rage in Florida, they bloom year round there if I remember corectly. Yes Shawn, the KO roses are a carefree rose, you don't even have to prune, but I am constantly removing the spent flowers and trimming off the hips. I only leave the hips over the winter. And they are disease and black spot resistant as well. But my reds have some kinda lil white spots on the leaves this year..don't know what's up with that, otherwise they look healthy, blooms are nice. I WISH my whole yard was one big flower bed! DH and kids are ready to kill me as it is, lol. Yes, the Snow on The Mtn is a groundcover, supposed to be only 12" tall, but mine is over that, how about yours? It's so pretty isn't it? I need more.. I wonder if I can seperate that? I love variegated plants. I wish everything I had was variegated. Karyn, yes the passi seeds, mandevilla laxa, and the night blooming jasmine are all from seeds you sent me that I started in Jan. Oh, and the KMOTGG which I absolutely LOVE BTW, it hasn't even flowered yet, but I am SO in love with the foliage..so pretty, and o soooo soft!!! I could sleep on that plant, lol. I have done some of the same, planted tall purple ruellia and vinca, the vinca died this year YEAH, LOL and they say you can't kill that stuff........I can and did don't know how but so far it's gone and I hope for good. Now watch it come back grrrrrrrr. I've planted things to close together, to far apart and have to find something to fill in the blank spot. I was outside this morning and was trying to trim off the bad leaves on my clematis will it was tangled up like your necklace chain and when trying to get it untangled the limb would break grrrrrrrrrrr. I managed to save some of the long limbs and hope it will fill back in next spring. It was a knock out last spring. I moved one clematis in the front yard I know they don't like to be moved but this one wasn't doing a thing in four years so I moved it.

Hi Frankie, From what you've described, I'd say you have the perfect place to use them! They don't spread by seed, so you don't have to worry about that, but they do spread far and wide by underground rhizomes. I was surprised to find mine coming up on the other side of a 3' sidewalk this spring (and in the sidewalk cracks all the way across!), but this is a watered area, and in an unwatered area like you're describing, I don't think it would do that---and if it did, you could control it with an occasional spritz of weed killer if you caught it early. They really are beautiful, long-blooming plants, and you'll have an impressive display if you decide to use them. I know of several places in San Francisco where they're used next to the sidewalks along roads, and they're wonderful. Mine, unfortunately, have to go because they're taking over EVERYTHING else in the bed they're in, and I don't want to wind up with nothing but Mexican Evening Primrose! (They are oh-so-pretty right now---I wish you could see them. If you decide to put them in, plan to water them well once a week for the first couple months, and that should help get them off to a good running start. I'd also recommend spreading some small bark mulch or other wood mulch around them when you plant them to help keep the weeds down, keep the soil moist, and to make it look nice while they're spreading.
