This c’puter challenged Grannie needs help, my iPad has been disabled.

I used an incorrect password. All it tells me is to connect to itunes. My HP laptop does not have iTunes. Can I download iTunes to my husbands tablet? Both the tablet and my iPad are Apple devices.

TIA for any suggestions!

Update. Last night I was able to download iTunes to my HP laptop. Silly me, I connected the iPad to HP, pulled up iTunes and expected the iPad to open and give me the opportunity to reset a password.

Not so! Then I read, re-read all the iPad links I could find on iTunes. I have a huge headache! I’ve loved having my iPad these past years!!! I use it solely for recreational purposes. Connecting with others who enjoy my hobbies. Primarily gardening, mostly with orchids. Square dancing. Keeping up with family & close friends via social media. Shopping, since I live in ‘the boonies’ far from any shopping malls. And simple games, scrabble, half dozen word games, card games, 42, solitaire. No internet games. Very boring to the current generations I suppose!

Must I sync to the HP? Does this mean I’ll start all over with content of the iPad? Will I lose my email addresses, forum links?

I assume you don't have an Apple store near you? How about your internet provider, Verizon, Comcast? They usually can help if you go in. Otherwise, you can call Apple support but they usually charge. I've gotten away with getting charged for a simple problem. I think they give you 15 min. free. Don't remember.

If the iPad won't accept your password, can you change it? Does it offer you that option?

Try calling Apple. I bet they will help quickly without charge.

Sorry you haven't had any responses. I guess it's hard for people like me (with no experience) to gauge what these students are capable of. Tomatoes are really easy. I stick them in the ground, put 2 (medium and large) tomato cages around them, come back in a couple of months and harvest. There's really nothing to it except the harvesting. And my 2 and 4 year-olds LOVE to pick tomatoes. It's almost their favorite in the garden. Squash/pumpkins are the easiest foolproof plant, but they take up a LOT of space, and their vines might get stepped on. Not bothered by bugs or slugs and guaranteed to grow. Perhaps you can put in some mini-pumpkins, just a couple plants would give enough pumpkins for the whole class. You would probably want to plant in the late school year and harvest in the next fall. For flowers, zinnias are cheap and easy, troublefree and bloom for months and months. Pansies will bloom through the winter when not much else is going on and just need a bit of water. Cornflowers easy. Are you doing perennials at all or only annuals? There are tons of easy beautiful perennials, but they don't necessarily have a long bloom time. How about planting star jasmine (trachelospermum) on an trellis or obelisk (or upside down, staked tomato cage) for a tower of fragrance? It's an evergreen climber with the most gorgeous fragrance for months in late winter and early spring when not much else is going on. Surprisingly tough and easy, grow it on anything and in a couple of years it will take off and everyone will love it. How about hens-and-chicks? Super easy, take drought, always making babies which can be pulled off and planted for more. You can send some babies home with each student and they're guaranteed to grow at home. Take an amazing lack of water. I'm not usually in this forum, so I hope this isn't too late to help you.

I think a house that large needs at least one more bathroom, so I think you are wise to make the change now. A window is desirable, and one that opens is better than a vent. I hated the port hole type window we had in one master bathroom -- didn't open and only served to turn the shower/toilet area into an oven in hot afternoon sun -- so consider where your sunlight is if you look into windows. If you decrease closet space, consider adding built-ins inthe room as well as closet organizers. You could use the corners of the rooms or the spaces between the windows and have dresser/bookshelf space, desk space -- just figure out what you need. And that can be done later -- except that having an outlet in the right place for a desk or possibly chargers, lighting, radio, etc. would be good to consider now.

Jodi, interesting that you mention the T-shirts. Correct me if I am wrong, please. When Spike first started the KT, there was no charge. Later, in order for him to be able to "pay the bills" which were getting higher all the time, he started the $15 fee. Then T-shirts were offered fo sale to help raise money, but I don't remember the price, because as much as I appreciated the forums, I don't wear any T-Shirts with advertizing logos. I do remember you made the iron ons. About the $15 fee, I could not understand why anyone who could afford a computer, and the cost of the internet provider, could not come up with $15 a year for these great forums, and so I never offered to pay for any one to join. And so Spike sold to iVillage. Although things here have gotten better, still proof that we get what we pay for. Sue

I-Pad Backup Help or Need?

I was here pk. I guess I should have let you know that the backup was specifically asking for the apple id password. I only brought up email because I found no contacts (but I also pointed out that I hadn't tried to link emails in any way). I also now see that there is an off setting on a 'settings' button for email. I am not sure how she sees her mail. Probably directly via Safari but I do see an email app right on her first page trey below the regular apps. Probably way more info than needed since this was not really an email question. Looking back, I now see that I wasn't clear about what password was wanted; sorry. My general question was about the whole purpose of this kind of backup. It appeared (and still does) that she may not have had anything to backup because she didn't really use itunes for paid music (and yesterday I saw something that implied it didn't do that either, I suppose because apple really only has pointers to the music and always remembers your apple id with those pointers). I was more concerned that perhaps each system update might wipe all apps and perhaps other stuff. As far as I can tell, it certainly didn't wipe all apps out (she still has some), and I see no reason it would clear specific ones. I was waiting for another response and to see if I got a backup. I can't really tell because it doesn't say so. It was not asking to be backed up yesterday (or today) and I can't find where it is indicated. The new update changed stuff on icloud and wanted new legal acceptance (i gave it) but that was after I attempted the backup. BTW I actually read a little of the legal stuff and it included that icloud could wipe your backup if you didn't backup for 120 days!!! Anyway, I still don't really understand the purpose of this backup system. While attempting to follow various directions, I got messages that suggest if there are problems (I don't think there actually were) that I should Reset the ipad. I am suspecting that perhaps that is exactly when the backup would be needed because the Reset Would wipe everything back to a new pad. Not sure of that either.

I just had the same problem with my iPad. I had to download iTunes to my laptop. If you go to Apple's website ( I did a Google search which took me to the Apple fix. I had to restore mine to factory defaults as I couldn't see in itunes where it had been backed up. I lost my pictures and my email plus my favorite sites but I'm just happy I can use it! It took me 4 days at trying it once a day until it finally finished. Kept saying it lost connection to iTunes. Good luck! When I set it up again I said NO to the passcode!

You may be able to find a Apple Authorized Service Center if you don't have. Apple store near you. Also you may be able to find a backup date for your iPad. I didn't have any backup dates for mine that I was aware of.
