Building a Home Design Dilemma Exterior

Logan Canyon Brick what color gutters, siding and shutters?

I love the brick and thought we would do brown shutters, gutters, siding and roof but it’s kind of boring. Then I thought maybe just do the gutters (musket brown) and a dark brown roof without variation then do the shake siding and shutters in a neutral color or something. Here is the brick but it’s not my house. Thanks for any input.

Use one of the colors you find in the brick. Don't use shutters unless they are functional or at least sized as if they are functional. Or match the trim. Or Hunter Orange.

Hi, What a cute little house! No worries, sometimes the coloring doesn't come out so well on the monitor and will look completely different in person. I can see why you chose the palette that you have though, it's exactly what I thought before I read your response. We have a 2 story colonial and the color of our siding is very similar to the color you have. We don't have any brick though, so we went with a Certainteed Roof in a medium toned charcoal color that has a touch of the brick color mixed in it. Without the brick the color looks great with the siding; our trim is all white as well. I almost think if you went with a lighter color on the trim it would offer a little more pop to the whole elevation. I know you didn't ask for this next suggestion but I think it would also look cute to have something flanking the door on each side. Usually people have lighting but if that's not possible, maybe you can hang some baskets on hangers or something. I think the brick just needs something more to help it blend in with the rest of the front. I love your landscape and how the gardens are layered with color. Very pretty.

Thanks again, so I also came across this thread ([https://www.houzz.com/discussions/exterior-paint-choosing-colors-dsvw-vd~3830482?n=9[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/exterior-paint-choosing-colors-dsvw-vd~3830482?n=9) ) and now Hampshire Gray is in the running too, lol. Pretty much eliminated Rockport, and leaning away from Gettysburg (one pro says it looks "battleship gray" to her which I looked up and I don't agree as battleship grays tend not to have any greens but just very cool and more blue-tinted, but I can see her point that it's not as warm). Hampshire Gray HC-101 vs Copley Gray HC-104 Wonder how the California sun would make it look. Want it to look warm but not old fashioned. The Copley gray in dusk light from the picture above looks more gray than the brown that's on this swatch. I know that it's all about the lighting. Since we don't have that much trim and other features (brick/stone facade), I just want a color that would look good even when it's the predominant color. Do you have the link to the page that showed best home colors for brown roofs? Thanks again.

Maybe if you could find a different supplier or source for the vinyl then you might find more color choices in the brownish shades that go with your brick. If the photo you show is your house, I suggest liberating yourself from the shutters on the upper level windows. Then you can just go with a cleaner, more contemporary look (since the window style is contemporary) and you have one less color choice to juggle.

I like the red mulch, it adds a bit of color to the front of the house, but, you definitely need some nicer landscaping. The green above would look good where the almond is. I do agree with flopsycat1, that the trees appear to be too close to the house. You need to be very careful, so that the roots dont damage your foundation. They are very nice trees, maybe a possibility that they could be moved out into the yard itself. A landscaping company may be able to do that for you.

Mark, stop giving people ideas. The flip house down the street just painted their shutters (on a pale yellow house with brown roof and accents) the brightest orange yellow imaginable. I guess they are trying to make sure the potential buyers notice them.

Without seeing your house and how all of the elements relate, and how much there is of each, it's hard to give an informed response, I conceptually like the idea of doing the siding in one of the darker or lighter colors found in the brick to make the exterior more cohesive and not so chopped up into different materials. I would only do your gutters in a contrasting color if they are going to be especially ornamental with downspouts planed out with conductor boxes and such as if they were historic copper gutters. Otherwise I would match your gutters to your roof fascia and eaves and the downspouts to your siding.
