What is best for winter storage of small Plumeria
Comments (9)Hello Barbra, I also agree with Jen and Dave. I dont bare root any of my trees. All of my trees have the annual cutting of the leaves before i bring them inside my house to "winter over" in the back bedroon. They dry out for a couple of weeks, get sprayed down with insecticidal soap or something else to make sure i dont bring in any critters!!! They stay in a unheated room with the blinds closed for the winter. The temp usually stays around 60 degrees or slightly cooler but not much cooler than that. I also give them very little water like Jen. The larger containers maybe more per month, but the smaller containers much less. I water every three weeks or monthly. I think the hardest part is to try and forget about them during the dormant phase. We think that they need attention, but they really need that time so "sleep" . The door is closed and i try and not to bother them..LOL Its hard to do but it works for me.. This year with my green house, i will keep a few smaller trees growing and see how that goes. The trees that i did keep growing last year under lights kept getting spider mites and i really didnt like that at all. Those little buggers only attacked the Plumies and left all of my C & S alone. The Desert Roses i keep in my great room and let them be as well. They do require more water than the dormant Plumies, but they do seem to drop the leaves as well for me. Everyone has a different way to get their Plumies ready for the winter. It depends where you live and the climate that you have. I wish i could keep mine outside and place them on the southside of my house, but it gets way below freezing here and even gets into the mid 20's at times during the winter. So....inside they go!!! Good luck with your trees..I see that you are in a zone 9!! How nice!!! Hope this helps with some of the ways we all prepare our trees for the end of the season. Comments (24)My tall oven cabinet came with a shelf, so I just put it high enough to fit my griddle and extra long platters and then placed the dividers on top of the shelf. The dividers can be screwed down, but I didn't bother as they don't move much without the screws and it also meant I didn't have to drill holes in my shelf! Even if the cabinet had not come w/the shelf, I was going to ask for one since I already had planned for this storage based on what I had seen here in the thread linked below. I think I got the idea from Gizmonike and Sail-Away. BTW...I was originally going to get the Rev-A-Shelf dividers but put these from Walmart in temporarily. The Walmart ones worked so well that I didn't bother to replace them...besides, I would have needed 6 packs of 2-dividers each and at $14.95 per 2-pack, this was much cheaper! I used 3 dividers from Walmart at $5.95 each, so $18 vs $90...easy decision! I also bought two more of those dividers and put them under my corner prep sink...one in each deep corner One holds cutting boards, the other holds my pizza stones & cast iron frying pan. Comments (3)I am in the process of doing exactly the same thing. Just drawing up the plans. Our contractor is coming on Thursday to discuss. Tile for a shower floor must be wet location rated -- it's a special thing. Alternately, it needs to be small pieces which is why hex and mosaics are seen so often. I found a porcelain tile which is very reasonable and wet rated. That's going down with heating underneath. I'm planning a 36" opening for the shower which will go across the far end and using a linear drain so the shower will drain fully. I'm using different tile on the walls and floor and I'm also tiling the shower ceiling vs doing an accent wall. Travertine is not be a choice I would make for a shower floor. We have a honed marble tile floor in our shower upstairs. It's very slippery, needs sealing twice a year and requires a fairly ugly rubber mat. Not going there again. But everyone has different ideas....See MoreLet's start a thread about organizing/storage solutions!
Comments (66)Stringweaver, thanks so much for the info on the streamlined refrigerators! When I save up enough to remodel the kitchen in a few years, I definitely want to consider smaller appliances, both to gain counter space and to save energy. I'm afraid my picture was a bit misleading, though. Joy and I had actually pulled the refrigerator out a few feet when the circuit blew and we had to access the plug so we could plug it into an extension cord in a working outlet. Then we left it out so we could paint. It's now back in its designated space. Kathy, I hear you about being strategic with small cabinet space. I have ONE lower cabinet that has to hold my steamer, electric skillet, mixing and serving bowls, baking dishes, cutting boards, and colanders/strainer. Right now everything's in there and juuuuust barely fits, but I know I've got a set of Pyrex mixing/storage bowls I haven't yet unpacked. And I've missed them because I can't microwave or bake or freeze anything in the Chefmate melamine bowls...so even though I love them, I'm probably going to toss them. I like your idea of keeping seldom used appliances out of the kitchen. I think Shades does that too. Speaking of Shades, thanks Chris, for the pic of the built-in around a low window. I love that! It really frames the window beautifully! Also, THANK YOU for measuring your suitcases!! That is so kind of you! I'm guessing your hunch is right, and those were standard sizes. Missouribound, no, the minisplit will go on the main (only) living room wall. Smaller units in the bedrooms. What is above the ceiling in the pop out? The sky, lol. :-) A pop out in an old manufactured home is like ones you may have seen in RVs or travel trailers. The RV is driven to its camping spot and then, like an accordion, the owner pulls out (pops out) another little section from its side. If I ever moved this MH, they would literally fold it back into the house in order to be able to drive it without wind sheer. I'll try to remember to take some pics of the outside and post them. It's an inexpensive way of giving people a little more square footage, in my case 35 more sq ft makes a big difference. By the way, I really love your basket idea! I'm going to try that! Time for bed. Goodnight everyone! :-)...See MoreRelated Professionals
