Are you going to come pick them up?

I think most of our crape myrtles came from Barton Springs Nursery on Bee Caves Road. They have a lot of trees. We also got fantastic trees (a bald cypress and monterrey oak) at Sledd Nursery on West Lynn. They are so helpful and have a lot of expertise, but it's a smaller nursery and I'm not sure if I've ever seen many crape myrtles there. I didn't check out the link that New In Texas provided, but definitely do a little research before purchasing your crape myrtle. They very drastically in size from miniatures (weeping container-type plants) to huge trees. There are many varieties of colors, some bloom longer than others, and some are definitely more disease resistant than others. They are all so beautiful, why bother creating more work for yourself by buying an inappropriately sized plant or one that tends to be sickly? If you like the large white ones, check out the Natchez. They are really great for our area and get huge. We have a bunch of those, as well as a Muskogee (for it's lavender color) that has already grown 2-3 feet for us this year! Chrissy

We have ours on a copper wire and hang it from our porch on the southeast side. We actually grow babies to sell and use the same method. I water them pretty much daily as they like to be moist. I don't think I would put one around a pine tree, they break to easy..(And great, the first time I try and post a picture I don't have one to show. This is not the stag horn fern). Good grief!

Answering the question of what to put in place of the trees, I'd recommend sod in order to heal the scarred lawn. The area is too close to the drive and street for shrub obstructions and there are already street trees nearby. If you are trying to hide some of the property across the street, then place a dome shaped shrub about 15'-20' from the street and 10'-12' from the drive. (Placing it too close to street or drive will be a disadvantage in one way or another.) The acceptable shapes to prune it to are dome or tapered cylinder. (If you prune to a ball, you'll ultimately be creating a mushroom shape tree form where the stem would be short stilts.) It could have a square footprint if you prefer. I'm not saying that placing a shrub there is ideal regardless of other circumstances. It's ideal if it solves your problem. If you don't need it, stick with sod only. I would be limbing up the street trees a little for cleaner appearance and so it's not a bigger job later. Examples of dome shaped shrubs, circled in red, especially at the background. It could be evergreen but doesn't seem that it must be, which would open up the the options in shrub selection.
