15-20 years ago i was in a mom and pop close-out store...they buy lots from auctions...and they had heavy duty ones and also potato mashers each were 99cents. I purchased a dozen off each and gave as Christmas gifts that year.

I had not a clue what they were for until much later seeing them in cooking stores eventually. If you 'google image' fish spatula it will come up as well as the more standard long slender fish spatula for pan searing turning.

I've not found many uses for it but I do make ravioli with fresh pasta that are a quick cook and large so it is better than my round spider for lifting out then into a buttered pan for searing. (fresh sage and garlic, yum).
